6'3 217 lbs George Foreman 6'1 212 lbs Sonny Liston 6'0 210 lbs Earnie Shavers 6'3 215 lbs Ken Norton 6'3 209-215 lbs Larry Holmes 5'11 205 lbs Joe Frazier They were all cruiserweight! That’s right! Today, cruisers are that big on fight night. If 6'3 215 lbs (on fight night) Usyk is a cruiserweight then so are they. If any fighter who is well over 6 ft+ 205-220 lbs on fight night is a "cruiserweight" then so are the above. This is why I think the CW division should be scrapped. Unless the men fighting in it are 176 lbs-200 lbs on fight night in the ring.
The CW really should've been a thing in the 70s, way to many fighters who were 190-200 getting picked off by much bigger men.
Ken Norton stated he used to cut weight by starving himself at times (not good at all, but they didn't know that back then). Kenny naturally weighed 225-230, which is very good for todays heavyweight range. I don't know much about the others but I'm sure they did something similar.
This is countered by the fact that Usyk and Wilder, both weighing about the same, have recently defeated dreadnought class HWs to win/defend world titles (AJ and Luis Ortiz). So all of them could have made CW. I'm sure a couple could have snuck into LHW if they really wanted to drain themselves, but they didn't want to drain themselves and that is the point of HW. Compete at whatever weight you think is best.
