We all saw in 24/7 and it has long been chronicled that he has problems from years in the sport, and physically needs to retire soon. However people want him to keep fighting, taking tough fight after tough fight. My question what will be enough, I hear some people even suggesting the insane notion he should go up to MW and fight Pavlik. how long do you want to keep fighting till he ends up like Ali?
All I want his for him to fight Cotto first. If he wins, one last fight against Paul Williams to completely unify 147.
Mayweather has only had one tough fight. He's never taken punishment and hardly ever gets hit clean. I would like to see him fight Cotto - but other than that - I don't see anyone else out there for him. Ali took some punishment towards the end of his career - so you can't compare the two.
Fighters grow old over night, one more fight one more fight and its your life. Wilfred Benetiz never took that much punishment, now he has to be looked after all day.
A fighter that claims to be the greatest of all time should fight Cotto, not retire with his resume or fight Mayorga, put it that way. If he retires, he's a great fighter that was p4p champion of his time, nothing more.
I think Cotto and Williams should fight to unify their belts and the winner should fight Mayweather! I think Mayweather has one more fight that needs to be made and thats with either of these two! He is the champ and doesn't need to clean out the division he just needs to do away with the so called best contender in the division, and we wont know that till he fights the winner of cotto-williams! If he fights one of them (and whoop his ass like he will) before they fight then people will want him to fight the other and so on! It will never end!
******ation is to blame! Ali, meldrick taylor, evander holyfield, riddick bowe, tommy hearns, and every other fighter suffering from pugilist dementia is to blame! That **** aint no joke! Sugar Ray Robinson died with Alzheimers disease! :dead
The top fighters with the HBO contracts and everything get paid more now so they don't fight as much as the fighters in the old days. Heavyweight champions back then still got a lot of money, which is why a lot of them (especially in the earlier 1900s) didn't defend their title often and instead fought in well-paid exhibitions.
Fight Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, and Shane Mosley before calling it quits. But I will be satisfied with just Miguel Cotto.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7135170.stm The 30-year-old Mayweather, who, despite hinting at retirement, will surely fight on, was as gracious as could be after the fight - the mind games over, another 'W' in the bag. "You're not gonna disrespect him here, he's one hell of a champion," said Floyd before Hatton entered the post-fight news conference, and both fighters embraced when the Englishman took to the stage. http://www.boston.com/sports/other_sports/boxing/articles/2007/12/09/mayweather_pretty_impressive/?page=2 "I took my time," said Mayweather. "I fought inside, and I fought outside. A true champ can adapt to anything. I knew coming into it that it would be tough, that he was going to rough me up. He was definitely the toughest competitor that I've ever faced." "I threw a lot of body shots and he kept coming," praised Mayweather. "I can see why they call him the Hitman."
I'd like to see him clear out the Welters and then quit. Cotto, Williams, whoever. I don't want him to sit and wait to clip the last man standing in a fight for the right to fight Floyd tourney. I want him to take on a champion soon, then the next one after that, etc.... After he cleans up, which I think he probably will, then ride off into the sunset.
People want to see him lose. As simple as that. I wasn't too convinced of PBF as that good. But when he beat my boy DLH, he got me. I really thought DLH was going to knock him out.
