What is performance enhancing? Is drinking a bottle of Gatorade considered to be performance enhancing? Is swallowing a 'better' pill to swallow considered to be performance enhancing? Is injecting a known credible intravenous substance considered to be performance enhancing? Is knowing the best trainer considered to be performance enhancing? Is having a bottle of Jack Daniels considered to be performance enhancing?
The implication is that a ped is on a banned list. Philosophically, I think you are right that there is a lot of grey area. Hence why certain substances have been added or withdrawn from the list.
Who creates the banned list? Why is a certain performance enhancing substance on the banned list? What’s the criteria? Who’s policing this circus?
Athletes' take steroids for one reason,,,they work. You get bigger, faster and stronger . And from what I understand you can recover quicker from an athletic event. Just look at pictures of Evander Holyfield when he was a prime 28 year old 195 pound cruiserweight champion, compared to the hulk he turned into just a few years later.
How about cutting so much weight that you're fighting a whole division (it more) below your real weight? Yes, they all do it a bit, because it's endemic, but it's still performance enhancement - especially with bigger cuts.
Boar meat Hedgehog meat Horse meat Iguana meat Is it a PED that both Fury & Usyk have a TUE for Cortisol steroids on their shot joints? No because without it, career over. Is it cheating that Floyd used lidocaine in his brittle hands, used IV bags and got every A-side advantage possible and more? maybe....personally if I had to do a weight cut I'd be straight back to my hotel room and onto an IV bag because good luck catching me! Fact is if they can find a way to gain any advantage no matter how small they will do it...hence why Marquez was drinking his own urine because he got suckered into nonsense. Fighters getting popped for low grade crap like what Egg Benn did blows my mind. That's just sutpidity and desperation. If you're going to try and cheat do it properly. This crud Garcia popped for was probably accidental.
It’s actually not, big cuts is not always beneficial because it’s hard to get all the weight back, especially without an IV. Too big of a weight cut and you won’t perform well at all, plus your punch resistance goes way down. I used to cut 20lb and it was fairly easy to put that back but any lb after that was really hard and I couldn’t perform well at all. My last loss was by stoppage, I have normally a good chin but since they screwed with the weigh in I didn’t have the chance to get all my weight back I got dropped by a shot I normally would take without any issues. Weight cuts is not performance enhancing, you might get an edge but it won’t benefit your performance.
"Fact is if they can find a way to gain any advantage no matter how small they will do it...hence why Marquez was drinking his own urine because he got suckered into nonsense." What do you think makes fighters push the boundaries more than other fighters? Is it a question of having better people around them which gives the fighter a clearer insight as to what you can and can't get away with, despite the rules? Or is the fighter themselves pushing the boundaries without any advice of their team? I think the ban of all PED's should be lifted. A PED is man made, it's not some witch doctor mumbo jumbo, everyone should have access to them which will create a truly even playing field.
Lots of things can be performance enhancing, question is, is it legal or banned. You can quibble about what should and should not be banned but it's a part of any athletes job to know what they can legally and illegally put into their bodies.
