A very carefully managed career, cherry picking the right opponents and only facing elite fighters at the right time.

In this way getting a lot of success, then getting discussed as possibly a better and more heroic fighter than Sugar Ray Robinson by his fans.

Eventually getting in the ring with a prime top fighter, when it is no longer unavoidable, and getting beat. Then roll on the excuses.
