Agree with you that it is the only way to beat AJ but every fighter at this level should be able to set traps and every top level fighter should be able to throw a counterpunch but that doesn't make them necessarily a counterpuncher in the proper sense. Wlad of course can counterpunch if he want to , but he does it only occasionally , he is not that comfortable with it , if he can change his default gameplan to a strategy which relies heavier on counterpunching then i would give him a chance to beat Anthony Joshua , but i don't think that he intends to do anything different.
you are the incompetent idiot. you do not understand the basic fundamentals of the sport. Wlad himself would tell you that he is not a counter puncher!!! A counterpuncher makes you miss and then counters the miss! Wlad may make you miss but he does not counter. Watch james toney or benitez or marquez but not Wald !
your incompetence is getting to a point that is emberassing.Your suggested gameplan is utter nonsense. Wlad has a good jab and a terrific right hand. Nit good at counterpunching though
So waiting for an opponent to walk into range and beating them to a punch is counter punching? Not in my book it isn't. If it is Amir Khan qualifies as a counter puncher. In the Pulev fight he lept in with left hooks from out of range when Pulev was static, he wasn't walking Pulev into anything like a trap he simply beat him with speed and greater agility. Like in the second round that big right that wobbles Pulev, Wlad had a static Pulev standing in front of him and Wlad just throws a huge right and Pulev is too slow to respond. The left hook that drops him soon after as Wlad leaping in with a static Pulev. The left hook that ends the fight in the 5th has Pulev in the centre, he is pretty static, takes 2 tiny steps but isn't moving forward just resetting his feet looking to see what Wlad will do and Wlad fires off a fast sweeping left hook, once again not a counter punch. Vitali was an excellent counter puncher, pull counters, counter lefts off the back foot as they come in, circling to move his opponent into position for a counter, Wlad does none of that.
He has to make Joshua earn his respect. When Joshua feels that power, it will completely change the equation and all the confidence will go out of the window. Like Tyson always says "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"
He was referring to a biblical proverb they were both fond of "For the churning of milk produces butter, And pressing the nose brings forth blood; So the churning of anger produces strife." He was telling him to avoid angering Joshua early, and to instead lull him to sleep with cuddles and jabs before unleashing the big right hand. Brando knew his stuff from his waterfront days.
