Saw Sylvia near the end of 06 at the Carriage Haus in Davenport, IA. He seemed sober enough, and at one point was given the microphone by the DJ and thanked everyone there for their support. He then proceeded to inform us that he would be going into boxing soon, and picking up some titles there and making some easy cash. And yes the crowd nodded approvingly as if it was reasonable. Wearing the belt to the bar is true, I did not see it first hand, but it was treated as common knowledge in town.
Tim Sylvia was an awkward but effective unit. But do you really see him beating JDS, Cain and Overeem? Surely you are taking the **** here?
I know he looks awkward and soft but his striking is effective and he can sprawl and his grappling isn't too shabby either. His record speaks for itself and really says what his strengths and weaknesses are. He was beating Nog but he got submitted, he got blitzed by Mercer but similarly he was no pushover when he ***** slapped Pudz.
Silva is magic. Belfort was a 'style' back in the day but he is so talented that he has worked on his striking and wrestling more. Chael is still up for debate. Will he go back to a journeyman looking CV or has he found his groove. Bisping, Maia, Stann, amongst others seem to still fit into the category of 'style' rather than complete fighters who are talented and able no matter where the fight goes.
