I really don't like the catch weight fight. I believe that there is a reason there is weight classes in boxing and if you want to move up you should go all the way up to fight or don't move up at all. What you guys think?

i think they're ridiculous considering how many weight divisions there are already. There's so many weight classes with 4 champs in each class, that's insane. why throw catch weights in the mix? it made sense back in the day when the diff between weight classes was a good 9-15 lbs but nowadays with divisions being so close to each other catch weights just seem ridiculous people should just man the **** up and gain/lose the extra 2-3 lbs or just don't make the fight.

im convinced the big fights wouldn't happen if catchweights didnt exist. fighters of this era are in my opinion, the most egotistical, mentally fragile and straight up ***** of all time. That isn't to say that they aren't some of the toughest men walking on the planet, but in comparison to previous generations, where fighters truly had no choice and faced the mob or starving mouths if they didn't succeed in the way success was calculated, the modern generation of fighters are truly a bunch of pansies MENTALLY- The steelhardened resolve that existed in an innumerable amount of fighters in the early and mid 20th century has diminished over time and only exists in few these days compared to the past.

without catchweights, the only fighting that would be going on would be between the promoters and no one else, too many unmerited premadonnas walking around these days

I don't think it even makes sense. Why move up a weight class but not fully move up? I just don't get it. Why fight let say a welterweight fight and make the weight max. 143? I think this catch weight **** is bad for boxing.

If only the fighters can weight between that same range come fight night, that wouldn't be a problem. there wouldn't be a so called catchweights . The problem is, after weigh in, most boxers if not all, dehydrates more than the actual maximum limit. It's just a way to control how much a certain person can weigh to have at least a fair match up, weight wise of course. :hat

mexican, your bias is showing. why won't jmm fight floyd at 147? why won't juan diaz fight malignaggi at 140?

The problem with catch weights is that it is a clear disadvantage for one fighter to kill himself extra to make a lower weight and its easier for the smaller fighter to make the weight. It's not fair for the fighter who has to lose the extra lbs because the smaller one wants to fight in that weight class but not in that weight.

pac did not request for it. it's cotto's choice if he would lay it on the line. if floyd is a 147 champion, they would be fighting for a belt too.
