What is your thought process in the ring? And what is instinct, reflex and automatic and what do you consciously think about?
Well... Me and chris arreola pretty much think about the same thing when sparring or fighting. This content is protected
Personally, I don't think about the crowd or anything around me but only thinking about putting the other guy down as quick as possible. The ring will fatigue you quickly, just remember that
i used to just repeat everything my trainer told me in my head before the fight. when we are actually fighting, just try and anticipate everything he was doin. even if u flinch when he isnt doing anything, its always safe then aorry. soon as u get the timing down the anticipation is kinda easy. then it was basically just implementing ur stragety with out getting presictable
That's a good question, I dont care what I throw or whatever strategy im contemplating, the message that keeps going through my head is, do what I have to do, but make sure my chin is in a safe spot. Make sure my chin is out of the firing line, am I approaching from the right angle? where is my chin? Where is his chin? Check. Where is my chin? Where is his chin? check again. that seems to be an internal dialogue. Where is my chin, where will his be? Angle, chin, check, where? Angle, chin, check, where? Sums it up for a stick and mover like myself.
I dont really think about anything, although sometimes when I get tagged by a good shot I'll think to myself "damn that was a good one"
What I mean is like for a novice boxer, he may be thinking "Damn where are the openings, how can I get closer. I think I'm going to throw a jab. Remember to turn my punch over and keep my right hand up" Then he throws his jab. Where as an elite boxer may just be in there and think "Let me feint and wait for him to try and counter and counter his counter" and then once he counters, he automatically comes back with a 3 punch combo w/o thinking about it. I actually was looking for an answer like this yeah I get most things should be, but I know you are thinking of something
Im figuring out a way to land on whoever im boxing, if your thinking about anything else your brain and thought processes is probably ****ing up your game.

I'm not usually a fan of people who write online boxing advice but that guy has a LOT of very good stuff. But yeah, the key is to keep it simple. It's just not possible to think about everything in the ring. I just relax (if I can) and try to land punches. If I'm doing something wrong I might consciously try to fix it, or I might consciously try a new technique, but the foremost thought in my mind is just finding a way to get my punches in. That usually means cutting off the ring, but that's not something that requires any real thought.
