By Jose Santana Jr The first time I ventured to California a year-and-a-half ago I made it a point of mine to check out some of the much talked about West Coast talent. It just so happened that the same day I arrived in San Diego there was a card taking place at the Hard Rock Hotel featuring young and promising area fighters and headlined by a then 14-0-1 Mercito Gesta of the Philippines. This content is protected Carlos Molina headlines at the Club Nokia Nov. 18 against John Figueroa I hadnt heard much about Gesta but was looking forward to seeing him and he certainly impressed with a first round stoppage victory. But, instead, the one fighter who left an imprint in my memory was then 6-0 lightweight Carlos Molina of Rosemead, Calif. Molina went all six rounds against 53-fight journeyman Anthony Martinez and sent him home with plenty of bruises to the head and body.
