Where will he be in the near future. Do you guys think he can actually become a world class fighter or will he get exposed? I personally like him and hope he can break through and become a hw champ one day.
He has a pathetic glass jaw and will be exposed as soon as he steps up in competition. He's essentially the black David Price only he's a lot more sloppy and has worse fundamentals than Price.
You don't need an iron chin to win a hw title especially when 6'7. That always makes it a bit more difficult to land when you have to reach up, not to mention they usually have to loop more making them slower.
Deontay's very good but his manager is being over-protective of him. He's fully capable of beating better opponents.
Well, they are being smart but too patient. Rush a guy and you'll have a Michael Grant, but move him too slowly and he'll run out of time.
I think he's pure hype. He talks too much for me and he doesn't fight anyone worth a damn. I don't like Broner's talk but he's also calling out the best fighters.. Burns, etc. So I give Broner props. Wilder wants nothing to do with either Klit or anyone even remotely talented. Arreola/Povetkin/ and really any other ranked HW will ice Wilder
Exactly. If Wilder would actually fight anyone other than a complete tomato can, people might take him seriously. But he won't - until it's time to cash out. His management knows full well his mandible is made of pure china, and will get shattered against the first live body he faces.
I think after Mitchell and Price the exposure of Wilder as a hypejob would ruin my fantasy boxing league picks.
The Price comparison is very apt here, and even more applicable in Jonty's case. He's faced terrible competition thus far, and his glacial rate of progress is totally at odds with his supposed ambitions of fighting for a world title sometime this year or the next. His team claims this is due to his lack of amateur experience, but rather than put him in with decent mid-level opposition who'd take him rounds, they seem more interested in continuing his meaningless KO streak with flashy demolitions of completely overmatched foes, which raises questions as to their true opinions of the man's abilities. To make matters worse, Jonty appears to be buying into his own hype, and has shown a childish defiance to any (legitimate) criticism of his level of opposition. Stylistically he's prone to showboating, and seems to fight in a way to please the crowd, which makes him reasonably exciting I suppose but is ultimately going to be to his detriment. He has a lot of flaws, a sloppy defence and terrible balance being the main ones, and fights in an over aggressive amateurish fashion that leaves his chin exposed. What happened to Price last weekend is more or less what's going to happen to Jonty at some point, whenever he steps up. You simply cannot expect to become a champion unless you're willing to lay the groundwork first.
I might have laughed that off a week ago, but seeing as how horrendous Price's punch resistance is, I believe you may be right.
Ha, funny how things change... Honestly, it's still a 50/50 fight to me... but I would pick Wilder I guess ahaha.
1 hell of a nice guy who is always trying to improve. One of the best work ethics I have seen next to the brothers.
