HAng your bag a bit lower. You throw alot of hooks left then right just clubbing away at the bag but sometimes when you throw the hand that isnt throwing is dropping away from your chin and your open. Try standing more side on to the bag instead of square and thinking about defense. Pretend the bag hits back and throw more jabs rather than just swinging away at it. And like the above said listen to your trainers and keep practicing
Yeah I love throwing hooks . To be honest when I'm on the bag I'm usually inside and you can't really throw a jab like that. so I stick with hooks and uppercuts because those are the ideal inside punches. You would never be able to extend your arm at that distance. I do think that I should jab more though. That means I have to back up Yeah I think it's a little high, I'm going to hang it lower. Yeah my trainer often says that my left hand drops a lot. I'm going to have to work on that. Thanks
Disagree you should be working on jabbing your way inside then throwing hooks then jabbing on the way out. Winging away with hooks like your doing in that vid is not inside fighting sorry mate. Work on that jab. You dont need to fully extend everytime the jab is flexible. Use it short and sharp keep em guessing why limit yourself
One thing is too keep your chin down when punching. Personally I only use bag work to get fitter, so I either throw lots of punches, or work on the technique of a certain punch and basically through it over and over again.
I thought inside meant close to the man/bag. meaning you would have to use hooks/ or uppercuts. yeah you don't need to fully extend but it shouldn't be a half punch or it won't be as long and it won't be as effective. anyways, that's how you actually fight, not how you might work on a heavybag. you cant jab backwards when you punch a heavy bag :think.. Since the heavybag doesn't pursue you.
Woaa you look real young. Gotta tighten up them hooks abit, there a little wide. Need to keep training hard so you are faster, sharper and more power.
thanks Hopkinsfan! I agree my hooks can get a little wide haha but at least that maybe gets more power and have a little more range on them lol
doesnt matter maybe im not being clear enough but i dont know how else to explain it apart from you are saying your working on the inside on the bag but your just standing infront of it winging away with hooks thats not working on the inside and your too open
I'll give you some advice - listen to the above advice regarding jabs! If you don't jab, you will never get anywhere in boxing... you don't start a round in the middle of the ring, fighting on the inside... you have to get there, and you do that by working your way inside, usually off a jab. If you need to back up to make room for a jab, you are in the wrong position in the first place - start on the outside with jabs and straight rights, and work your way to the inside from there. What's the first punch you learn in boxing... it's the jab... have a think about why this is. Trust me, if you insist on staying on the inside, you will never get anywhere. one other thing... LISTEN to advice, and follow it.
see i just needed someone to explain it better than i could lol. You should be getting in there (by jabbing the way in) getting off your shots on the inside which doesnt mean standing in front of the bag and winging away pretend that bag hits back! And then you should be getting out of there ideally by jabbing your way out and using angles and pivoting off. And thats over simplifying it as it is lol I love my heavy bag its great but it does lure you into a false sense of security and head movement and thinking about punches coming back goes out of the window. Always pretend its a live active opponent that wants to knock your head off :good
I know. But this is a heavybag and doesn't really move or attack me at all. You can't take this for reference of what I might do in an actual boxing match. I know that jabbing is more important then inside work, that's obvious. Being inside is important too or you might get pounded on your body like Ali did all the time since he didn't really have any inside game. Sparring is a little different because the opponent actually is stalking you or backing off. It's much easier to use a jab there. I'll have to put up some sparring vids
just thought id add its just practice mate you asked for constructive criticism and you got it, its up to you if you take it on board or not! Keep working hard you obviously love it!:good
then your doing it all wrong always train like your going to fight that bag is an opponent that will hit you back on the button and leaving your chin in the air and winging away isnt going to help. You will end up keeping those bad habbits in the ring and get clocked
