I've seen a lot of posts trying to defend Wlads hugfest against Povetkin and people putting down other fighters who were less than gentleman outside the ring. I a perfect world fighters would be gentleman outside the ring and beasts inside it, but this isn't a perfect world so what would you prefer from your favorite heavyweights?
Personally of Im paying to watch something I want excitement. I don't care what someone does in their personal life if it doesn't effect me.
From a boxing standpoint I could care less what they do outside the ring. Animals inside the ring usually get tamed. I'd like a third choice
There is no third choice because Wlad fans have seen fit to denigrate other boxers for what happens outside the ring. As you've said, who cares? Have you seen this one post? This content is protected All that because he doesn't like the idea of Wlad being criticized for being boring.
Wladimir is boring and put forth one of the worst performances I've ever seen. Has nothing to do with Mike Tyson. Don't try to justify Wladimir's in-ring timidity with Mike Tyson's out of ring problems. That's such a stupid argument. Just ponder that argument's inanity for a bit. Of course people want excitement. Do I watch movies because the director's a nice guy??
i'd rather a gentleman than a sick **** ****** like Tyson or a women strangler like that sick **** wilder
So you would rather watch a boring gentleman boxer than a guy who goes in the ring to annihilate his opponents but does things you don't condone outside the ring and has no personal effect on you? Ok.....got it! :good
As a fan of Cuban/Soviet boxing school (which some people here apparently find boring) I take amateur boxing very seriously and do not share the same views about what's "boring" fight as some other boxing fans. It's surely entertaining to see guys like Manny Pacquiao and Mike Tyson go an all out war and those are the fights I just sit back and watch but when it comes down the boxing as a sport itself, that's not what I ultimately intend to see. Of course, most people want excitement and I understand that, but those matches where boxers use their head to think about every move and evade getting hit is what interests me the most. Personally, I find Rigondeaux a perfect boxer to watch. Also, watching Lomachenko in WSB or back in the amateurs was great. When it comes to the sportsmanship, a bad behavior is something I really hate to see. It's disgusting and the main reason for that is the boxing scene in the US being turned to a total circus rather than a sport. It's not nice but that's how it is. I don't follow some guys mostly because of lack of the sportsmanship and discipline they have. It's nice to watch Floyd Mayweather sometimes to see the skill he's showing, but really there's no honor in what he does outside the ring and sometimes that's the only thing that counts. I don't follow him much simply because of the negative and circus-like atmosphere that surrounds him. Also, that Adrien Broner guy, maybe he has a talent and will be something special, but that's not how you behave in a sport. I know many people who simply overlook boxers like him or Floyd despite them maybe being actually worth watching. As for Klitschko, as he was referred to in this thread, I have all the best to say. The brothers are a pure example of how every athlete should be. Unlike some people on the forum, I don't find them boring and that's probably because our views at the sport are different. About the Povetkin fight, he was grabbing and immobilizing Povetkin's arms on purpose and he has done it skillfully. He developed those wrestling-like techniques on a very high level and they were aware of that in Povetkin's team, it was just that Povetkin's plans didn't go as expected and he could do what he was hoping for. He kept trying until the end but it didn't work. Like many other fights, this one was worth studying, at least from my point of view. So yes, as I've said, it's about being a good boxer and a good gentlemen, and there are times when only the second thing counts.
While I don't agree with parts of your post I applaud you on an honest interpretation of your feeling about this. Unfortunately I cannot give that benefit to many boxing fans who make certain claims on these forums and others because I know their agenda and have seen it for years. :good
