What do you think about losing your belt without a fight; globally or in individual cases?

Michael Spinks, and the second reign of George Foreman are examples; and my question is general.

Yeah, totally depends on the context. For example, Usyk should get a temporary pass for a while given the situation in ukraine, but if that war were to go on for years, then eventually boxing would have to move on and find a new champion.

Depends on the circumstances. For example when JMM was stripped of the IBF and WBA featherweight titles that was BS, IBF should be ashamed for that.

But then you have situations like when a fighter fails to make weight and the titles are declared vacant, like when Campbell failed to make weight for Ali Funeka, where it's the right thing to do.

This essentially answers the thread - it is fundamentally down to the circumstances it happens in but generally a champion losing his belt outside of the ring isn't great.

Carlos Baldomir “lost” the WBA and IBF titles because he didn’t have enough money to pay for their sanctioning fees even though he beat Judah. Just another reason why having over 50 champions in boxing sucks and why saying “he beat this many champions” has to be taken with a grain of salt.
