    Bradley lost the fight.
He's declined some, but more about styles in my opinion.

He's been decling for years and anyone with a brain can see that. Bradley didn't beat Pacquiao. Pacquiao - Marquez 3 was close as usual. Pac was winning this last fight until he got caught.

Is it a style thing? Well everything in boxing is a style thing. But there's other parts of the equation. Pacquiao hasn't been the same since he fought Cotto. He's lost his hunger since then. He's also gotten older, it happens to everybody. His losses don't detract from his ATG status. One could argue this last fight made him more legendary. Either way his legacy was sealed a long time ago.

he was never anything special in the first place! if not for the catchweights we'd never have heard of him

He hasn't been at the same level he was at in 2009. He peaked physically during that 2007-2009 run. His foot speed, hand speed, work rate, reflexes, and stamina have all declined significantly. His power has also declined, albeit to a lesser extent. It's clear he's no longer the same animal. All of his out of the ring distractions that he's taken on since he became a megastar after the DLH fight haven't helped him out either. Boxing is one of those things you need to keep a single-minded devotion to if you want to stave off an inevitable decline due to loss of physical gifts. Floyd knows this, for example, and Kobe Bryant knows this as well, to use an alternate sport reference.

I think Manny belatedly came to realize this as well. From a technical standpoint, he looked very good boxing Marquez in the first two rounds before he got caught. Though he didn't look impressive due to Bradley's spoiling and negativity, he outboxed him pretty easily and neutralized his offense with his movement and counterpunching. He also looked very good outboxing Marques in the first two rounds of their fight. I honestly think that was Roach's plan, to have Manny box from the outside. It was working, but once he got caught in the 3rd round, Angry Brawler Pac returned for the next 3 rounds and eventually got reckless and KO'd. That might be just because Manny still has that brawler mentality ingrained in him, even if his brain and Roach are trying to make him more of a boxer now that the physical attributes that once made him such an offensive brawling machine are less than they once were.

He might be technically better (and for all we know, possibly still improving) now than he once was in the past, but maybe his chin is gone following the Marquez KO. We won't know for sure until we see him in the ring again.

As for his losses, I don't hold his two early career defeats against him much (same as how I don't hold Sergio's loss to a young Margarito against him when analyzing him today), and he lost cleanly to Morales, but he was robbed versus Bradley and got caught versus Marquez. Manny is certainly less than what he once was physically, but I don't think he's done for yet, provided he can prioritize boxing again and continue to work on improving technically.

    Nice post! HawkFan16

For me, both reasons contributed to his defeats.

Pacquiao from several years ago was a hungry man who has suffered all his life, and was looking desperately for fame and glory. The sufferings he endured as a child, teenager, and young adult propelled him to attack his opponents ferociously. But after he destroyed ODLH, Hatton, and Cotto, he became a millionaire superstar and started getting laid by women from around the world. When a fighter like Pacquiao who is driven by poverty, abuse, and suffering starts to have a good life, his drive begins to decline, so he no longer fights as ferociously. The same thing happened to Tyson. Pacquiao can still box well, but that killing intent, that hunger for glory is no longer there after having such a pleasurable life in the past 3-4 years.

  11. Name the catchweights?? I think you will find he had 2 at the level you are talking about. Its hardly a lot, and considering the time he spent in those paticular divisions it was only fair as he was fighting legitimate WW and LMW/SWW..

Manny fights foolishly and wrecklessly. Those are the same reasons for his last two defeats.
