Can it still be used today?

It can be, but it's a dangerous style. It puts u in harms way and is very risky. Especially against a hard puncher.

Yes, it can be used today, in fact Mayweather Jr. used it briefly in the Pacquiao fight when Manny was throwing flurries on him against the ropes. This lil bald headed sissy talked big turd out of his mouth about Ali using it in one fight for years just to make it his main defense in the biggest fight if his career. He also used it in the Maidana fight.

The rope a dope is still alive.

Of course it could, but it takes a dope to fall for it. Levi Forte, who developed it said the rope a dope would only work against a headstrong fighter.

What do you think about Rope-a-Dope? Do you think that it's one the best game plans or a cheat?

Its a huge risk, you have to be incredibly gifted defensively, and show the ref that you're not taking a ton of abuse to pull it off. Not everyone is adept enough to pull it off, but for the ones who can, sure its a decent ploy, and no I wouldn't call it a cheat.

It can be pulled off but you rarely see it because it's risky. It could work against a strong finisher. Take a guy like Wilder (whom I like) but when he has a guy hurt, or believe he does he goes all out and gets pretty reckless and leaves openings to be countered. Even in his last fight Brezeale caught Wilder with 2 shots that at the very least that backed Wilder up off of him briefly. It's really no different than a fighter pretending to be hurt (rope-a-dope) but it just depends.

Rope-a-Dope was invented by Ali and used against Foreman.
Only Ali can do Rope-a-dope style in boxing perfectly, nobody else.

The first time I saw this game plan was when Ali fought Foreman in 1974. Was there any boxer using it before Ali did in that year?

To my knowledge, which is limited in regard to boxers from before I was born, he's the guy that invented it. But I'm not a historian.

I watched that fight when I was 13 years old. It was a strange thing that I did not expect to see. What a tactic!

There was a boxer who fought against Foreman before Ali did. He did well against Foreman by using ropes and corner to help him fight back that monster even though he lost the fight. Ali watched that tape and started to develop Rope-a-Dope to beat Foreman. That's all I know.
