His chin was very good, he didn't go down against Lewis or Tyson (except for a flash KD)He froze more than anything when hurt, his survival skills were poor, his chin was good though.

his chin was pretty good as he usually took a couple of punches on the chin to first rattle him then with his rubbery legs starting to buckle under him all that was needed a good shot to the chin to disable frank to the point of him hitting the canvas:yep:think

brunos chin, as previously mentioned, was pretty sturdy..it was his inability to react after being chinned that was the problem...if big frank's pride had allowed him to take a knee or go down once or twice, his superb conditioning might have enabled him to recover far better than he did by his 'tactic' of freezing on the ropes and takinjg flush bomb after bomb WITHOUT GOING DOWN.....history may have been different if he had been able to employ this tactic....dare i say, he might have recovered and went on to beat lewis

I don't think that Bruno's chin was his main problem. It was n't a great one,but it was as good as most. Frank would gas out out as a fight went on,and would then get caught. So it was stamina issues, rather than his chin, which was his biggest weakness.

If Jumbo Cummings had hit Bruno that shot just 5 seconds earlier, there would be less doubt that his chin was bad. Bruno was OUT.

He didn't have a good chin.

overmuscled, over stiff style with solid planted feet helped develop power and use his physical traits well. but when takign a punch he didnt seem to be dextrous enough to clinch only hug the other guy which was easy to break out of and due to his size he was unagile to move.

the biggest elphant in the room is his statuesque physique he was massive and strong but just not able to keep stamina in the later rounds. he also never slipped or swayed away form punches he was always in front of you.

Yes, another point about his rather solid physique was that he didn't tend to ride with the big punches, slip & sway as you said.

It's not like bam-down he goes, Bruno normally stayed on his feet, but he'd be so hurt from the intial punch and so incapable of protecting himself that it was a recipe for diaster. A weak chin further compounded by weak defence when under severe pressure.

Only really in the McCall fight did he manage to keep enough composure to cling like an octopus when hurt, and Ollie was pretty clumsy in trying to push the advantage too.

Definitely feel that trading off some of his power for the sake of being a bit more fluid would've helped Bruno, as well as helping his stamina out with a bit less bulk. Training with an American trainer or too could've been a real boon as well.

He didn't need an American trainer, he had Terry Lawless and later George Francis.
They trained several world champions between them.
Bruno was just not a "natural" fighter or boxer, he took a long time to teach.

Even his punching took a long time to develop and was probably never developed to potential. He planted his feet but he didn't always drive and turn his hips into a punch. His power was largely just his upper body strength !

The guy never learned how to 'slip' or 'roll' with punches.
It was inevitable what was going to happen.

    Kind of like,,Cleveland Williams.
    They both took punches,,,,,'flush'.

The punch landed around the back of his head as I recall.

It was the punch that landed right on the jaw that had Bruno seeing stars.
