That was one of the worst KO's Ive ever seen. I didnt think Gamache would ever come to. He was in La La land for about 15 minutes.

If he didn't feel comfortable he just shouldn't have fought. He wasn't in Gatti's league anyway. More of an advantage was dangerous as we see.

I don't get it... Did Gatti weigh the proper weight during the weigh in?

This is very unclear. Gamache and team alledge that Gatti was rushed on and off the scales BEFORE team Gamache could see the weight for themselves. When they asked to see, they were basically told NO.

**I'm not 100% sure, but I think I recall reading this was Gatti's 2nd try? Maybe something about a trainer sliding his foot under the back of the scale so it couldn't go all the way down?

I have an OLD Ring Mag issue where this was a Feature Story, but I'd have to dig like crazy to find it.

To just back out that late would be a potential breach of contract situation, I think. In retrospect, though, insisting on a separate-scale weigh in was the way to go. Truth probably is that it was the biggest purse he had available and they didn't want to derail it.

The claim is that he didn't and the scale was dodgy/the NYSAC official let it go.

I think you are thinking of the Corrales-Castillo fight... One of Castillo managers was seen to be "lifting" the scale with his foot. Wonder what happened with that?

I agree with that in theory, but fights aren't fought in theory. Guys will try to cut weight anyway. A man who is up against a naturally bigger man is at a disadvantage. A man who has dehydrated himself within the last 10 hours exposes himself to extreme health risks. Dehydrating yourself 8 - 10% is dangerous enough as it is. To step straight into a boxing and sweat out more fluid is a fatal risk, especially given level of brain trauma in boxing. Danny Green basically fried his brain when he fought Sean Sullivan a few years back, and that was with 30 odd hours of recovery.

I remember seeing Gatti/Gamache live a few years back (Was it on the undercard of De La Hoya/Coley?) and it was sickening. Gamache got bum-rushed by a guy who looked ****ing huge in the ring. But boxing is a dangerous sport. There is now way to preotect everybody.

Yep. If you can't fight at that weight then don't. If you still want to fight there then you are entirely rsponsible for what may happen to you.

People need to watch that fight, Gamache got battered because he wasn't fast enough on his feet and left himself wide open for those punches. Gatti was a strong puncher, but there are alot of other guys at 140lbs that would have hit Gamache much harder than that with the opens he gave. I feel bad for anybody that gets hurt in the ring, but that is risk you take everytime you lace up the gloves. If Gamache felt Gatti had an illegal advantage he should have never gone through with the fight.

Yeah, but the issue is holding the weigh-ins the day BEFORE the fight, which allows fighters like Gatti to compete at weights WELL below their natural weight and then gain back weight between the weigh-in and the fight.

IMO all weighs-ins should be held the day of the fight, as it used to be. If you can't make the weight the day of the fight, you shouldn't be competing in that weight class.

Gatti weighed 160 that night. :admin:admin

Knew he put on a lot of weight but 18 pounds is ridiculous.

Strange timing, with Gatti's death occuring so recently.

Personally I think it's obvious that Gatti did not weigh in at 141 because of what witnesses reported had occurred at the weigh-ins.

Yes, and Gatti pounded a water bottle right after Gamache's trainer yelled at him to get back on the scale.
