So I was just wondering what are your thoughts on this guy I've read articles on him saying he considers himself to be a world class fighter because he's beaten world class opposition and that once he wins the lonsdale belt outright he's going to target a world championship belt by fighting the likes of Maidana, Bradley, Judah, Peterson etc. What I find interesting is that he never mentions Khans name considering at the time when this particular article came out he held 2 of the 4 main world championship belts or is it because Theophane considers Khan a good friend hence he chooses not to target Khan you know. Since Thephane and Khan are the top 3 British light welters (McCloskey being no.2) out there that fight should be alot easier to make would it not, So that should be the most obvious step to take to gain a world championship belt/shot is it not. Yeah so feel free to fill me in here. Just so you know alot of these articles can be found in the WBN website.
Theophane ain't all that, he was behind on points in the eleventh round in his last fight against a guy who was 8 - 3 before that fight, he stopped him in the 11th but he made it so much harder than it should have been, he also got beat pretty comfortably by WBC champion Danny Garcia who is easily the weakest of the world title holders at light-welterweight.
I really like him. A lot of people talk about how he was bullied in his last fight by a guy who came in at short notice, but in truth Theophane had trained for 12 weeks for a tall rangy southpaw, and instead he got a short aggressive brawler. And he still got the knockout win. He has some very good names on his resume. He is certainly European class at the minute, and i'd fancy him to beat Maidana if I'm honest
Think he is a very good fighter, won't win a world title but could get a shot or two at one. IMO he drew or beat Garcia, but was evidently not going to get the decision. Reckon he is vastly underated
he never mentions khan because according to him he isnt on his radar, he says he wants the likes of bradley maidana. imo he beat garcia though.
You obviously did not see the Garcia fight then, Garcia even admitted he was lucky to get the decision against Theophane.
he was jobby the last fight on the british Khan undercard only time i have seen him and was to be honest i expected more
I haven't seen loads of him but he seems a solid boxer who has cleaned up at brit level and could easily move to European. I would say he could be a fringe contender as he has already gave Garcia fits and beaten Rodriguez. not sure if he can win a belt though.
