He has real potential but has question marks, Does he have stamina?, Can he take a punch? for example. He should have atelast used one of these years to get stronger he is going to need to come in heavier than 215-220lbs he is built more like a Shooting Guard he should also move onto 10 and 12 round fights atleast. He can become anything from Michael Grant to a Heavyweight version Thomas Hearnes, I personally think they are playing it safe and waiting for the Klistschkos to slow down dramtically or retire altogether just my hunch.
Badly managed prospect. He has speed and power but his physical build and overall skills are lacking.
Sad this......as are most 20-30 y/o HWs. Fighting safe soas not to climb the rankings as much as to stay relevant for when the K2 are gone. I gotta think that even Potvetkin (32) is hoping for the same. Either someone to come along and stop Wlad or push one or both into retirement. Sad, that NONE of these socalled upncomers are even negotiating or talking about a potential fight with this generations ATGs.:-(

Deontay Wilder will next face Youngstown’s 29-year-old Chris Koval. Koval is a fatty who was KOed in round one by Tye Fields and is ranked as the BoxRec #450 HW.
Poor man's Dimitrenko. Seth Mitchell is the only genuine prospect the yanks have. Personally I rank Mitchell a bit higher than Tyson Fury, I probably have Mitchell just inside my to 30.
Well it won't be for a couple of years till Wilder really steps it up. But as some poster mentioned earlier, his competition is a little on the soft side. Sadly his team are putting him in with journeymen who are glass jawed rather than the durable type. Fortunately at least Koval can provide a bit more of a test and once gave Dimitrenko a harder nights work than expected, but I think he's really on the decline and shouldn't last more than five rounds with Wilder. What interests me is when Wilder is in against someone who comes to win rather than collect a pay cheque, if Wilder wants a test then how does this sound, his next 4 fights should be. 1. Jason Estrada: Can he handle a smooth counterpuncher with little power, or will he get easily outboxed? 2. Jason Gavern: Always comes to win, and has provided a few shocks and always earns his money. Will Wilder be able to handle his pressure? 3. (providing he beats those first two tests) then surely he's ready for the tough Franklin Laurence for the NABF title, a tough fight and one he'll have to probably take a few too many uncomfortable punches. Now if he's beaten ALL 3 then lets put him in much tougher by facing big punching scouser David Price: The winner? = Shot at the world title possibly.
Naming 29 fighters who would beat Mitchell is a bit daft and has nothing to do with what I said, I'll try and name who I rank ahead of him at this point in time. 1. Wlad Klitschko 2. Vitali Klitschko 3. Povetkin 4. Chambers 5. Adamek 6. Haye 7. Thompson 8. Helenius 9. Pulev 10. Solis 11. Chagaev 12. Dimitrenko 13. Boytsov 14. Arreola 15. Peter 16. Chisora 17. Ustinov 18. Wach 19. Kevin Johnson 20. Huck 21. Mike Perez 22. Mormeck 23. Juan Carlos Gomez 24. Siarhei Liakhovich 25. Seth Mitchell 26. Francesco Pianeta 27. Tyson Fury 28. Pala 29. Stiverne 30. Grant 31. Andrzej Wawrzyk That's probably my top 30 at the minute, may have forgot one or two. None of Gerber, Price or Glazkov are there at the minute who could all crack that list after there next fight depending on the performance.
Liked the look of him as an amateur, sounds like the people behind him don't have too much faith. Give him Davie Price.
I love all of these armchair promoters, trainers and managers that post on here. Anyway, he has the potential to be great, but I do believe he'll pick up a belt at the least.
Deontay Wilder will now be fighting age 40 Marlon Hayes. Hayes who is just 5'9" has been inactive/retired since 2007 and has never fought at heavyweight before. He's fought mostly at light heavyweight, but he's had fights at middleweight (for a regional title against Kingsley Ikeke, who knocked him out), super-middleweight and one before he retired at cruiserweight.
He wont learn from those fights. That was my point when I posted a while back. This is why these fighters tend to get exposed. Further edit, now Chisora has fought Vitali and put up a fair show pressuring the champ all the way As for Wilder, I doubt it will be long before he enters The Rings top 10 HWs
