Oh, he'll bring some excitement all right - when his glass jaw gets BRUTALLY shattered by the first live body he faces.:hey
Wilder is a sick joke................... Haye made Wilder look like a drunk while sparring, hurt him a lot........... Vlad knocked Wilder down with a left jab, beat Wilder from one side of the ring to the other..................Wilder refused to fight Thompson and Chisora, not to mention every heavyweight who is anywhere nearly ranked..........
Don't even dare mentioning Wilder in the same breath as these guys, they're world champions and fought some good competition where Wilder's fought NONE!
Deontay Wilder must be the heavyweight Messiah. After all, they keep raising shot old boxers from the dead to be his opponents. :dead
Wilder's size and style remind me of Derrick Jefferson. Let's watch Wilder fight Fres and Mariusz Wach. I'm dubious of Wilder's ability to take a hard punch. I might be confusing him with somebody else but might remember Wilder being greatly bothered by an opponent who landed a few simple jabs. Much of the criticism about Wilder was also the same things said about Gerry Cooney "he never fought anybody but washed-up ex champions/ contenders or bums".
I'm in agreement that he needs to fight some real competition to see what he is capable of. He has not yet so we have no real way of telling other than the fact that yes he has power and yeah he's a bit of a crude fighter. Also many people bring up the sparing session with Haye, has anyone seen the entire sparing session? From what I can find, there is no footage of the entire session just a segment edited by Haye's team..which David Haye even admitted that they took the best footage and that Wilder got him also with some great shots (it's in an interview with Haye about the sparing which you can find on youtube). Also the shot he takes from Haye and stays on his feet was a really clean heavy shot from Haye and he didn't go down soo...maybe he's not as glass chin as people seem to assume. I don't know but you certaintly can't base any kind of opinion I don't think on a Haye promotion video that was edited to make him look good. Also on that note one thing that annoys me about Haye is the fact that he can spar and look really good and then when he goes into a fight he's mostly cautious like with the Wlad, Valuev fights (Valuev fight was a serious snore fest besides the last round) and he doesn't appear to really want it. Anyways, Elroy makes some great points about Wilder and his flaws but I do like the excitement factor he has brought to the HW's even if it's short lived. We need more fighters that bring that to this division and I don't care where they are from. Bottomline though is that he needs to step it up this year so we can stop all this speculation one way or another.
