What do you think of Felix Sturm?

How do you rate him against the other top middleweights? How well would he do against them? Against the names of the division like Chavez Jr and Sergio Martinez.

And how he would do against the talented but largely unknowns outside of boxing publicity like Dmitry Pirog, Gennady Golovkin, Peter Quillin, Andy Lee, and Daniel Geale.

I think he beats Chavez Jr in a unanimous decision, or a tight split decision depending on what Sturm shows up and depending what gameplan he exerts. His left jab and accuracy obviously would play a part in winning the fight. I think both have fairly decent stamina which would take this to the distance. All in all it depends on what Sturm shows up. I believe his experience and his timing would be Jr's undoing in the end.

Sergio Martinez would most probably beat him comfortably by decision as i think Sturm would go into a high guard defense ala Arthur Abraham, and simply not throw enough. I guess his trainer makes many of his fighters adopt the same strategy at times.

And from what I've seen of the others. I see him beating all of them except Golovkin. I think he's the most talented middleweight out there right now. Although, I think he beats Pirog but has a hard time in doing so. Pirog will improve every fight so it's hard to give an opinion on him at this stage of his career. The rest of them he beats quite comfortably. I don't think Peter Quillin is going to go much further than he has already, and the others he beats by experience alone.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. By all means mark out the flaws, or tell me if i'm wrong or w/e. I'd like to read other peoples opinions on this topic.

Sturm is a fraud. The guy has been hiding fighting cans ever since the DLH fight.

Sturm vs Pirog would probably be a barn burner. Hasn't Sturm mentioned him recently?! WBA-WBO unification..!?

Close decision that can go either way IMO... I can see Pirog being creative enough on offense so to connect around or in anticipation of Sturm's guard. I'll say Pirog SD, anywhere... no godlike power on either side, and both possess sound fundamentals. War of attrition, believe Pirog is more versatile and adaptable than JabMaster Sturm.

Beats the wide-open, slow Chavez Jr but Chavez activity should earn him some rounds. 8-4/9-3, about that.

Macklin has a shot, obviously. First fight could have gone either way. Sturm looked better last time out, but Macklin had better stamina, harder punches and went more to the body than Zbik. It's no wonder he looked better! I'm not saying he's NOT faded (Murray wasn't good even though that shoudl have went clearly to Sturm) but Macklin's activity and relentless pressure will make it another close one. They should do it again, because the first fight was excellent. Sturm had Macklin badly hurt in the last ten seconds, just like against Murray. He shouldn't wait so long to open up.

Beats Geale but once again - Geale's activity will make it fairly close. I'm not into Geale particularly much - his win against Sylvester was partly due to Sylvester being extremely inactive and very faded. Geale didn't show me any great quality in that fight. A decent fighter though but not "a star is born" like Sky said...

Golovkin knocks him out. Even though we shouldn't hype Golovkin too much before he has actually beaten somebody highly ranked, I think his skills are obvious. Sturm doesn't have the power needed to back him off (Golovkin can be tagged), and Sturm's guard can be pierced. Sparring is a different thing but SO many stories with proven, tough opponents should tell us something. His gritty fight with Ouma told me some about his toughness and relentlessness. That Macklin-like relentlessness, but the WHOLE fight, with much more power and skill, doesn't bode well for Sturm (who of course is a much better boxer than Ouma).

Pirog, I think, outworks him. He will be hit a lot with Sturm's jab (Pirog has holes in spite of trying to be slick) but Sturm isn't awkward or powerful enough to deter Pirog's activity, uppercuts and relative toughness. He stands there and blocks punches too much - sometimes at close quartes, like against Macklin, Gevor and Murray. Doesn't siut him although he has nice accuracy with his close shots(his left hook to the body is great). Could even be a knockout for Pirog but I doubt it.

Beats Barker closely but clearly. A bit better boxer than Barker.

Martinez knocks him out and I would bank on it. Martinez finds a way and would counter Sturm's jab with the right like he did Dzinziruk. Sturm's legs are almost gone (watch the difference vs DLH) and Maravilla still has his relativaly intact. Martinez punches deceptively hard, which I've said before he started getting knockouts, and you could draw some similarities to what he did to Barker's high guard in the end. Sturm - despite his high guard - is a bit open to right hooks behind the ear and Martinez would exploit that. And if Macklin made Sturm uncomfortable with his body work, this will be more of the same. Maravilla is intelligent and can adapt IN the ring as well - a rare trait that master boxers like Hopkins, Calzaghe and Mayweather posess in abundance.

Martinez will outbox, outwork him - and eventually knock him out.

I don't know with Quillin. From what I've seen, Quillin is too raw. But perhaps.

    He beats Lee.

He beat DLH, maybe after he was robbed decided not to fight in US, when he can have good money in Germany and any close fight to go his way.

I think Martinez is about the best right now but sooner rather than later i feel he's going to fade. And when he does challengers will come knocking. I feel he's about the best but he's a tad overrated when people describe his boxing abilities. He had decent wins against Macklin and Barker but i feel he's slowly starting to decline. I guess we can all gauge his ability in his next fights.

I think he is solid and consistent. Not a great fighter, but a solid fighter.
I would like to see how he would do against Andy Lee or JCC Jr.
