I have to admit I think hes a bit overrated... but at the same time, you can only beat who is in front of you, and he has done that rather spectacularly. Theres just something that was there before about him, that I just don't think hes as good as gets let on, and as he appears. Solid, solid fighter for sure, obviously. Cant argue there.... but, I don't really see him as a true pound for pound fighter if I'm being honest. Will be interesting to see how his career progresses, maybe he proves me wrong. I know I am in the extreme minority in my views on Garcia.

    * I realize I said absolutely nothing of substance in this post lol... just a bunch of personal opinion and conjecture. I cant really point to any one thing he does or doesn't do that would underscore as to why I see it this way, so cant really give a good analysis as to why I think he wont fulfill his potential. I realise hes no longer a prospect, but as an example of sensing a guy isn't as complete as billed, think of a prospect who hasn't shown any weaknesses yet and has looked really good against his opponents, but you obviously see how hes not quite at a certain level. While Garcia isn't a prospect, and I cant point to one particular thing he does or doesn't do, its just the feeling I get of him as of right now. I get the sense he can be outgutted.... that he may be a bit of a front runner not so much stamina wise but dogfight wise. That being said I could be totally wrong there... haven't studied him too much and am going strictly on the feeling I get watching a few of his fights.

And by all means, he could continue to improve.... and as someone from the Garcia family, not just gym but family, and someone that seems like a smart guy, I expect him to.

Like I said... pretty much a shitty post here lol, and I admit it. But its just the way I see it on Garcia.

Mikey is one of my favorite fighters. What I like about him the most (besides the skill) is that he never rattles mentally. Even under heavy artillery he stays cool and waits for the opening. P4P fighter in my book.

I'm ambivalent on this one. I've never entirely bought into the Micky G - future legend narrative, perhaps because the hype never extended across the Atlantic. But.... the last time I thought a solid European technician had a good chance against a more admired foe in the USA was Crawford vs Postal!

Its like this... mikey is top level.

But with the layoff..and one ok comeback win...in todays landscape its in the pure boxing analysts feel within reason to question his status/legitimacy as he resumes his career.

With that said...you have to look at whos out there to really test and elevate him in a brighter light then his current top wins..

    Loma? Crawford? Broner?

Has Zlat been chin checked by someone with Mikey's speed/power yet?

Remember Rios said Mikey hit the hardest at Oxnard.

Ok comeback win? He knocked the guy down 4 times in 5 rounds and made him quit. Triple G does that to a comparable level opponent and he's p4p lol. I think Mikey's power will carry all the way up to 140-147, if his body fills out.

@kirk what do you think he's missing? Every time he had a step up fight he's dominated and KO'd his opponent. He beat the **** out of Salido until Salido broke his nose on purpose and the refs stopped it. Oh yeah his broke Salido's orbital bone.

Yea Broner vs Mikey by the end of year per Robert Garcia

    Hard to say really.
Burns touched him the most, but he's not known for one punch power.
In the Redkak fight.....he was so offensive, any shots Red landed were almost in selfdefense and so they came down on Zlets head.
Im certain of one thing.....if he goes 12 with Mikey landing, he's got grade A iron.

If this goes to scorecards then I'm sure Burt Clements and company will take care of Mikey.

Mikey is an interesting fighter no doubt. He's a very solid all around fighter, but I can't think of any one thing he does that you'd consider elite. Comes from a good boxing pedigree and is definitely a fundamentally sound boxer.

He has a couple issues though- first one being his 2 plus year layoff. Luckily it wasn't injury related so there is a possibility he could get back to the form he had at SFW before his hiatus. But still, he lost 2 + years of his absolute prime, and he'll never be able to get that back.

i also question his chin a bit. It looked shaky when he moved to 130 lbs a few years ago, than he had that long layoff and now he returns campaigning at LW. He made mention of eventually going to 140 lbs, he better avoid Crawford because Terrence would probably stop him inside 8 or 9 rounds.

Thats why I was pretty disappointed when the Salido fight didnt come to a natural conclusion. Garcia dominated and dropped him a lot but as I recall Salido never seemed on the verge of being out and was starting to get some traction. Seeing Mikey close the show on a tough guy like Salido or go a few more rounds would have said plenty. I kind of felt that was a little bit of a quit job kind of like what Arthur Abraham tried to do in the Edison Miranda fight

I think Mikey is very talented I'm just waiting for the big win and defining performance
