What do you think of Shakur Stevenson as a fighter? I think he's a great fighter, and maybe a generational talent. He's very skilled, especially given he's not even in his prime yet. He has great handspeed, body-punching ability, footwork and defense, and he's got decent power. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he could win a title at 135 after beating Valdez.
He's a knobhead, with no power, whose chin hasn't been tested, but he's got some really impressive skills and reflexes. I'm looking forward to see how he progresses. I also like his attitude, he seems to really want the big fights. He'd mop the floor with scrubs like Haney and Garcia.
Big fan but im a jersey guy. I think he beats valdez and a lot of other guys in and around his weight
Jersey guy here as well. He is local to me but no delusions of what I have seen from him so far. He will be hard to beat. His understanding of how , when and why he punches will be hard to overcome. He is not likely to get his chin tested anytime soon because he is so sharp right now.
I was very impressed by his skills when I first saw him, from his head movement, lateral movement, counter punching, defence etc. Nothing I've seen since has changed my first impression that he's a future top P4P fighter. As long as he doesn't allow success to go to his head and regress then I don't see him losing any time soon. It's going to take a special fighter to take his 0. But I don't see him becoming a big star cross over star. He doesn't have a style the casuals will love, his personality and out of ring antics will turn others off him and there's a lack of rivals that can give him the type of super fight that will allow him to cross over into the mainstream.
I dont know about lack of rivals with ryan garcia and tank davis who have some star power lingering around him
He was a weight bully at those lower weights he was huge at those weights he dwarfed fighters in the ring.
bc he had no money for food and was skinny and big at the weights, then he skipped 115 and 118 pounds after he finally got some money due to being able to eat now
I'm talking about a becoming a big crossover star that can sell PPV's in the million bracket. I'm sure he could reach Andre Ward, Errol Spence Jr levels of success and fame. But if were talking about a genuine cash cow, guys like Garcia and Haney are not going to give him the type of super fights that garner the attention of the casual fans.
I think thats more a statement of boxings overall popularity in the us I figure Stevenson can crossover in so far as a fighter in the us can crossover in this moment in the sport here. Not saying much but fights with the two guys i mentioned at least put him on the map
I think he's going to be a top 5 P4P fighter in a couple years. He should handle Valdez and start making his mark at 135.
