Duck all the dangerous fighters till they are past prime or retire or do worse than you in comparrison record wise, and retire never having faced them but still retiring as the undisputed best for your era.

    Lennox Lewis VS Prime Tyson

    Mayweather VS Pacman

These 2 arnt ideal examples but they are the first to spring to mind.

When you compare it to guys like Ali and Sugar Ray its not fair, no way should Lewis and Mayweather get the recognition as the best of the era because they didnt prove it. It is still unkown even if they were to retire undefeated. So they cant earn that title, beacause they didnt fight all the best in their era at their best, thats the only way to earn it and should be the only way to get the fans recognition and respect.

I really don't rate Lewis that highly. But I don't think you can blame it all on him that the big fights didn't happen when everyone was in their prime. Tyson didn't want a piece of him either, and Bowe outright ducked him and retired early. Could he have given Klitschko a rematch sure, but he was already 38. Nothing wrong with retiring when he did. He's still got a lot of good names on his record.

What I wish he'd done, besides fighting Bowe, of course, is beat Holyfield more convincingly. He had the size, strength, athleticism, and skill to put the much smaller man out but he just had no motor, no heart in those fights. They felt a lot like the Spinks Holmes fights to me.

Would have been nice to see him fight Foreman or Michael Moorer too.

Lennox did the rarest thing in the sport---took on numerous DKP fighters in title bouts and title elimination bouts. The records of guys from rival organizations in those shoes certainly isn't good. And Lennox took his act on the road and fought all over the place.

When did Mayweather ever take fights like that?

They have a legacy they dominated this era. But sorta of tainted, If Mayweather ducks Pacman he ducks SRR,SRL,Hearns,Hagler,Duran..heaps.
Lennox would fight anybody Tyson just primed very early (Tyson paid him step aside money to fight Holyfield) and had one goal to be the youngest heavyweight champion. For fk sakes seems if you turn pro before 29 you have a chance of getting a title shot if you mass a good record and with the overweight fighters today if you keep in good shape and can last 5+ rounds you'll get there.

It's quite possible he did punch him. If that's what you were worried about.
