The Ring has sadly become unreadable. The text is about Size 16 font, and there is nothing of substance in there any more. I know that GBP "rescued" the Ring when it was in financial trouble, but they have basically turned it into a joke of a publication.

It's sad to see, but really online is all that matters these days anyway.

 

They changed it about a year ago I think and I thought there were too many pictures in it, particularily dull ones of a guy with his hat on after a figth and no action shots, I wrote to the editor about it and he said there was still as much text they were just using a smaller font now. The last issue I bought just before I left England was either the 1st or 2nd one just after they sacked that editor and there's just as many pictures and the text now looks like it's out of a 5 year olds book. I don't think much of any of the last years changes to the magazine.

The only thing appealing about Ring is Margaret Goodman's column, explaining the medical side of boxing. The only thing, however, I disagree with about Goodman is her decision to get Corrales out of the Casamayor fight ("This fight has to stop" I think were her words).

Bagg (Ring columnist) is as good as Dan Rafael, i.e.not that good. Rafael prides himself on knowing loads, but anyone can get paid to research boxing 24-7...but if you can't extrapolate what you've researched and put it across in a decent way, heck, pack it in.

This sort of thing seems to be happening constantly since collins was fired. The basic parts of the editing job such as making sure there are no typos seem to be beyond the new team. In one of the recent issues they had an article on prospects, in the honourable mention section every fighter listed was credited with more knockouts than they had fights.

 

:yep quite common on the website too
