At first I thought he should have let it go. But a split second later i told myself that round 11 was really a pretty bad round for Arce and that the ref had probably made the right call.

What do you think? I think it was a good stoppage, but bordering on too soon.

To me, it was a BS stoppage. Arce was still in condition and the cut wasnt that bad because there was only one more round left.

Im sure Arce would have wanted to see the twelve out , but he couldnt see **** out of the left and for the ( at least ) two rounds before that his legs had lost their bounce, so he wasnt even going to be able to land a huge punch and turn it around.

He wasnt badly hurt but why should a ref let him take three more minutes of punches when he had no hope of winning it.

great fight for the first 6 or 7 rounds though ! And Arce should feel no shame , I watched it with two ( non boxing fan ) friends , who as you would imagine had no idea who either guy was but were blown away by the ferocity and bravery of both men !

The 11th round was as indicative of the need for a stoppage as was the 9th round in the Diamond-DeMarco fight. :good

that was my 1st reaction but then i thought how in the 11th Arce really took a bad beating alot of refs wouldve stopped it before the bell even rang

I dont think the stoppage was too late, I think it was too early, sure Arce wasnt winning the fight and was well behind, but when you allow a fighter to get to the finish line of the 11th you have to give him the opportunity to finish on his feet especially a proven fighter like Arce who has given so much to this sport, I think the stoppage was too pre mature in this fight.

Not saying Arce would have pulled it out, I am saying that he wasnt exactly getting the **** beat out of him neither.

He was beaten pretty soundly throughout the 11th and Darchinyan seemed content to simply beat him around without really trying to finish him off. There was no point during the fight that I saw that would have warranted the ref to step in and call a tko although there were some times when you wondered how the hell Arce stayed on his feet. Darchinyan pounding on a guy with a chin like that without going for the finish for 3 more minutes would have been a dangerous situation. Good stoppage by the ref. We know Arce wanted another round but this is a case where the guy is too brave and too tough for his own good.
