What do you think would've happen if Canelo had fought Makabu instead of Bivol?

I have no idea because I don't know what Makabu can do, but based on his weight alone I can imagine he would've knocked out Canelo at some point.

If he fought and beat Makabu he'd still be the clear #1 P4P. Fighting Bivol and losing caused him to not be #1 P4P anymore. Oddly CBS Sports had Canelo still as P4P #1 after losing to Bivol, but then dropped him out of the top spot after beating GGG pretty convincingly. CBS (or most other publications) have not updated their P4P list since Canelo beat Ryder.

It seems that Canelo not stopping Ryder and that going the distance may have prevented Canelo from moving back up into #1 P4P, which doesn't really make any sense since Canelo has had 3 devastating stoppage wins since the last time the man who is generally seen as P4P#1 right now (Usyk) last had a stoppage win. Also it's arguable that Canelo's last 2 wins over GGG and Ryder were better opponents than Usyk's last 2 wins Anthony Joshua, and Canelo won each of those fights far more convincingly than Usyk beat Joshua, in the rematch at least. The boxing "experts" seem to be a little "confused" as to who is P4P #1 right now.

Canelo should be able to reclaim consensus P4P #1 with a win over Bivol at 175 or vs Benavidez. But yes had he fought Makabu and beat him instead of fighting Bivol he's surely still P4P #1 right now. Canelo losing to Bivol and the hand injury has made people re-evaluate their P4P lists, and understandably so. But his sustained dominance at 168 vs quality opponents is going to be hard to ignore, particular if other top P4P fighters remain inactiive or refuse to take on quality challenges.

Authorities all over the state of Guadalajara are searching for an escaped inmate from a top security mental asylum. He is said to have stupified two guards with a 3 hour monologue about Canelo, at which point he took their keys and made his escape. :bananaride

Nah. Despite Makubu being a weak world champ, he'd have been too big for Alvarez. Light heavy proved too big a jump in weight for Canelo, and Cruiser would have been far too big a jump!

The version of ''Mak-a-boo'' who lost to Badou Jack is not the ''Mak-a-boo'' of a few years ago.

Canelo beats Usyk. Makabu is easy work. Lol. Those were the peak “Canelo is goat” days. That immediately died when the Bivol cards were read though. Once the decision was announced, Canelo suddenly became a small fighter. Been seeing that everywhere since then.
