Its not a question of what a boxer needs to do to become a mainstream crossover superstar. The question is what the **** is the sport of boxing and the people who pull the strings going to do to take this sport and put it back into the mainstream? When is Boxing going to be a crossover superstar sport the way it used to be? I find it hard to understand how boxing could be so loved back in the past and right now it is virtually unknown. Is it because people in America have all gotten too touchy and soft to watch a sport like this? Or is it because of $?

The majority of the "crossover" stars in boxing who became mainstream celebs, at least in the states, weren't big trash-talkers.

More sponsors would help. Boxing being on free TV. That's been on a decline for awhile, maybe starting with the Mancini-Kim tragedy.

    of course it's not enough.
a 'world champion' is a loose term in boxing and rightly so. you know this.

fighters have to play their cards right and that doesn't always mean fighting guys with titles, though it can help.

no its because federations make a joke out of it.
beercan fans don't know how to read between the lines and, the truth is, this is still a minority sport.

I honestly think that the fact that there are so many belts around seriously hurts the sport. I mean the term, "Former world champion" means almost NOTHING. I mean Forbes was a "Former world champion". What does that mean? It makes it too hard for the average fan to follow the sport.

Get rid of the politics and clean up the sport and then we might have a shot at getting back in the mainstream.

All the publicity stunts in the world will not turn a bum into a superstar. In boxing it is what a man does in the ring and how he does it. Mike tyson didn't become the biggest name in boxing because of his good looks and sweet personality. He thrilled the fans with exciting fights. Name one superstar in boxing who didn't do that? :huh

Add waving the green flag at the Indy 500 to that list and that should be about accurate.
