What does "A is better pound-for-pound than B" mean to YOU?

Well whatever you'd put more weight in the more recent fights.

How recent is recent? Because I wouldn't put any weight on fights that happened 3.5 - 4 years ago...

I'd take them into consideration but not as much. For example if Pavlik had beaten Roy Jones 4 years ago in addition to the fights he's already had you'd have to have him higher P4P wouldn't you?

hmmm...if someone as young as Pavlik beat a still very good RJJ 4 years ago he would already be pretty high already...actually climb down from his high ranking because the calibre of opposition he had fought in the meantime was lower...I might have certain expectations of him, sure..."this guy beat RJJ" but I would look to see whether the skills that he showed in that fight were still evident in his very recent fights...if not...no...he would be falling in my p4p rankings...

But he'd be higher than he is now.

If it was 4 years ago and had fought exactly as he has actually fought "since then"? No! Why would it be higher?

Let's put it this way...if A and B are identical fighters who fight in exactly the same way with the same results against their previous opponents in the last 4 years, does it matter who they beat previously? I don't think it does at all...nor does it matter what their resumes look like, 4 years previously...no?
