I just watched a video about the most painful places to be punched, and #1 was the temple. For those of you who have boxed, what does a punch to the temple feel like?
The only place I've personally ever 'felt' a punch to the head is when it lands on my nose. Other than that I tend to find punches to the head don't really hurt, from average punchers at least.
It short circuits everything and to be honest it wasnt painful like say a bodyshot or hard crack on the jaw. Almost like you spun yourself round and round and then tried to walk a straight line. The only thing that saved me was i clinched and then he got pretty wild trying to finish me off which resulted in him throwing alot of wide arm punches. The most horrific punch i ever absorbed EVER was when I threw a righthand which missed and my opponent counterd with a shot right in my solar plexus. I remember while he was pounding me all along the ropes that I felt like I was dying just trying to breathe and I was so focused on trying to just breathe that I wasnt doing anything.
I find getting punched in the head hard extremely uncomfortable. It doesn't hurt in the sense that piercing skin does, but I can definitely feel some sort of discomfort in my brain for sure. Like a *whomp*. Especially from someone who can crack when they land good, flashes happen, grays happen, stars are real, all the movie stuff. When I first started, I thought the gloves would save me, or a tight guard. I was wrong. It still is really uncomfortable to have someone punch on your guard if you're just absorbing impacts in your head area anyway. It's endurable in the sense you can continue on unless you've been debilitated, but I always had it in the back of my mind that it was surely unhealthy. That's why I never did anything seriously with the sport. I was a stone cold b*tch. That being said, I've never really taken a super bad side of the head shot, but I've given one where I saw someone lose their balance pretty bad for a little while. I call it the stun gun dance. Or the chicken dance. Or the stanky leg. Common with the side of the head shots, especially the farther back you go. With some headgears, the ear has a nice webbed pocket you can just smash.
I felt temporarily disabled for about 3 seconds. Then my functions were coming back after that. That's all I remember. It was painful. But I can't remember the pain so much. I remember the disability it gave me .
Those punches don't really hurt, the only thing that can hurt is the front of the face (several areas respectively). But can do damage you'd feel instantly. Maybe short "disfunction" of some part of the body, maybe worse. To me, it happened only once to not feel my right side of the body for like 1-2 seconds after a temple punch. No kick to the head ever did any damage I can remember or similar of effect to that one. We all know it, but it's better to note it more often: punches to the head, light or heavy are dangerous. They can damage the brain. Of course, plenty of fighters have not such a problem which is fine. it mostly happens in boxing as all the punches are to the body and the head and mainly the head. That's why we should protect ourselves when training, even the professionals do and often way more careful than the ones who practice unprofessional.
Only from personal stand point but blow to the temple by a gloved fighter was as others have stated just another punch to the head. However i recall getting a bare knuckle punch to the temple in my distant late teens, and that did shut my one brain cell down for a brief moment i didn't hit the deck but there definitely was a total loss of awareness, and after the tête-à-tête when you start to feel effects of any punch, kick etc there was a sickening ache in temple area, and the area from below temple to lower cheek felt like it had been injected with dose of novocaine for a few hours. Only benefit of being older is you learn to at least initially concur with the quote that says: "Jaw-jaw is better than war-war"
First standing 8 I ever took was from a left hook to the temple. I was lucky, I felt nothing, just saw a big blue spark and thought, why am I down here on the canvas. Worse one for me was getting hit in the liver. Absolutely awful pain
I got hit in sparring once with an overhand right that landed just behind the ear. Proper jellied legged me zab Judah v Tzyu style, embarrassing. Didnt hurt at the time just felt weird, like I knew it hat was happening but couldn’t control my legs. Later on though felt pain in the head and sick and groggy
Yeh mate when you get hit in the liver properly it’s hard to come back from, have been dropped and dropped others myself with that shot. Horrible feeling!
Head punches obviously have an effect but I agree — they don’t hurt except when you get bopped good on the nose. Body punches, on the other hand, can really hurt. You feel them right away and they often stay with you.
