What does B-Hop have to do to surpass RJJ as a great of this generation?

Beating Roy these days is like walking the park, no big achievement,
even Vic Darchynian would have the punchers chance.

Beating Calzaghe is similar to beating Valuev, hard but everybody is
expecting this at any time, just for the reason to prove they were frauds.
So right after that happen the win goes to the trash.

Roy's win at HW is historical but if you just think that he outboxed
Ruiz with the huge help of Nady (who kept Ruiz away from hugfest)
then any win at CW is equaling this.

    lol :rofl:lol:

I never saw Joe-Calzaghe attempting to fight a genuine, young, big Light-Heavyweight! Nevermind a big, legit HW champion like Wlad... WHOM HE SAID HE COULD BEAT IF HE WANTED.

Bernard's right, Joe Calzaghe did pull off a damn good con-job.

He IS a good fighter... BUT he's managed to, in the eyes of many of his nuthugging fans, seem like someone who has a case for being ahead of RJJ/DLH/PACQUIAO/HOPKINS.

I'm sorry, he's not even close to them four. Or to Mosley.

There's a shitload of ppl I'd rank higher. He struggles to make the t10 & would probably be 10-15, if we we were asked to make a list.

    loose order but:

RJJ, FLOYD, PACQUIAO, DLH, HOPKINS, MOSLEY, MORALES, BARRERA, MARQUEZ (as a 4-weight world champ, he WILL win one at 140, i'm SURE of it), TITO, WINKY.

LENNOX & EVANDER have enough successful continuation of their careers overlapping with this lot to count too.

Naseem Hamed, with only 1-loss to one of the greatest featherweights of all-time... has a case for having had as good as Calzaghe...!

He unified the belts in his division without taking 9 years like Calzaghe did. And even then, Joe only 'cleared out' by beating one man: KESSLER.

Never did he have any real intent / do all he can to get a fight with smaller .mw's / bigger LHWs... as most who are well far n beyond their current weightclass do in our sport.

Atleast Naz kept baiting Morales & Barrera up from superbantamweight... and eventually, Barrera obliged.

but this thread isn't about Calzaghe.. or Naz, now is it.

But he never fought anyone as good as Toney in his prime like Roy did.

I agree. However, if asked, I would Bernard will go down as the better all time great than Roy!

There is a chance that Hopkins, if he faces Adamek, could become NO.1 in some people's eyes, in the Cruiser division! Its open to debate who's the best at Cruiser but if Hopkins were to beat Adamek it would enhance what is already a very great legacy!

There would be no better finale for Hopkins! Bernard is an extraordinary pro. Jones has done amazing things in his career, i.e. going up to HW & winning a title.

It also comes to one's preference a little bit! A case can be made for either guy having the better of the other guy!

Hopkins only has to beat Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya and that Eastman guy for the historical 4-title, record-breaking achievement and let knocked out Glen Johnson deal with Roy Jones' career.

    Wait, it's 2009 already?

So about half a decade has passed since Hopkins surpassed Roy Jones and do I have to remind you what happened since then? Hopkins has clearly and undoubtedly surpassed Jones, and if I hurt your feeling back there, so ... ****ing ... what.

Get a time machine and go back 10 years when Roy was ranked higher or go forward a decade and check if I was wrong. I'm not.

Regardless of what each of us here, think.

Fact is, RJJ is still widely regarded as the Number1 of this generation.
And continuing with that trend of 'widely-regarded' it tends to be the trio of Floyd, Pacquiao & DLH coming afterwards... and THEN B-Hop.

Remember how on here a lot of ppl used to suggest that the only way Floyd could dislodge RJJ from that number1 spot, if he continues to dodge most of the best fighters, would be to win a middleweight title!

    Anyhow,
If you think B-Hop has already surpassed RJJ in terms of legacy (I'm not denying there is a decent case for it) -- in your opinion, WHAT does Bernard have to do to make it widely-regarded in the boxing world! Think of this topic in that manner, then.

The Ring Magazine Championship is a joke?:rofl:patsch

You think those belts Roy had at Light Heavyweight meant anything? Two of them were paper belts they belonged to DM and the WBC belt was just handed back to Roy for no reason there was a lawsuit which the WBC lost do you remember that? Yes the alphabet orgs have so much credibility.:rofl:patsch

    Beat Dawson
    Beat Super 6 winner
    Win a CW title
If he does all three I would consider him equal to Roy or maybe even slightly better.

    lol beat me to it.

however, the questioning of B-Hop's status as a true light-heavyweight champion is fair enough. As good as JoeCal & Winky are as far as the P4P picture goes back then...He didn't really defend it against any real light-heavyweights now did he! Fair thing to point out & question.

idiotic comment though by that dude.
    "joke" ring magazine title. lol.

Hopkins above Jones imo. Jones has the talent but Hopkins has accomplished more in that he has the superior record against other good boxers and has aged better. He's higher on my ATG list already.

    Hopkins is already ahead.
What could Jones do to catch up with Hopkins?
