Is being undefeated in boxing means you have the best record and no loss because you had surpassed and tested tough opponents in your career. How about picking or avoiding the right opponent? Legendary boxers like Ali, Duran, SRR, Armstrong etc. all have several losses on their records but they were never forgotten in boxing history. So does it make sense to be undefeated?

i think he is asking if being undefeated means you cherry picked your opponents.

I mean, it can...but...it doesn't have to, necessarily.

If your a young boxer it mean your probably backed decent sized promotional set up and your being well protected.

If your a contender who's been a pro three or four years it means you have passed all the arranged tests and your promoter is now going to protect you and his investment until the title shot comes along

If your a ageing champion it means you yourself have come through your career relatively unscathed and have over the last three to four years cherry picked your opponents and actually fought less and are now looking for three more good paydays while protecting your own ego

undefeated often means not tested yet, or have been protected by judges at some points or even troughout your career.

Sometimes it means you're better as each and every opponent you've faced, but that hardly ever happens.

It doesn't mean **** if you avoided and ducked risky fights most of the time.

In virtually all cases it means you wouldn't fight the best, the best wouldn't fight you, your weight class was littered with tomato cans or you are the next incarnation of Sven Ottke

It simply means you have won every fight you were in. Some tough some easy. every fighter of every era have had fighters that they would not face for whatever reason. To not avoid what everyone is avoiding Mayweather fought almost everyone in the welter weight division with the exception of Margarito which everyone bought Bob Arums Floyd ducked him story. Because Bob Arum would never give Floyd a shot at Cotto at 140 Floyd would not give Arums fighter a shot at his title. The very reason that Golden boy Productions was brought in to make the Pacquiao fight with Mayweather. Arum didn't want the fight before and he wont want it now, Pacquiao is Arums cash cow and Arum is milking Pacquiao for everything he can before he lets him fight Mayweather.

well, for someone like Floyd it just confirms how great he is.
when you have fought the MOST champions in the sport and stay undefeated it means you are the best and one of the best ever

it only means you have zero loss on paper for easier ranking but does not tell how good you are as a boxer due to gift decisions, fixed fights, cherrypicking, handicapping, and how really good your opponent is and circumstances when you fought them................

    That's what losers say.

If you're poor, you say "money doesn't buy happiness".
If you're ugly, you say "beauty is only skin deep".
If you have no friends, you troll forums.
