That he is too Old to carry on boxing ?

I tell you what it tells us is he is a 'champion'
Most boxers would have gone back to their stool at the end of the round having suffered a knockdown and when their head had started to clear, thought to themselves.
    1] i can't win this fight ?
2] i am going to get hurt ?
3] i must run away, stay out of trouble and hope my opponent gets tired out ?

Calzaghe has such inner strenght and belief he carried on with the same belief and conviction that he was going to win that he started the fight with.
To be rolling around the floor at the feet of a living legend/great and get up and win in the manner that he did shows a champions head and heart, most boxers even World title holders if they had been knocked down in the first round by an old master would have gone on to lose the fight.

What seperates Joe Calzaghe from other good boxers is his Mental capabilities, not only does he always find a way to win by working opponents out, his inner belief that he will win is absolute.

    Good point newbie.

Calzaghe is one of the most resilient fighters out there today.

    No.

The first was a well timed right hand that caught Calzaghe cold and off balance. Credit goes to Hopkins for that.

The second was a blatant forearm.

He was also never hurt after these points, which suggests its a case of being caught cold.

It tells us he is vulnerable, but that his powers of recovery are very good.

He shows that in the first round he has a tendancy to rush opponents
and be reckless, but it also shows that he has good recovery skills,
and anyway the RJJ knockdown was caused by a hit from the forearm.

That he moved up in weight and fought two boxing legends with some pop in their shots, and he went right at them with his usual abandon, knowing his chin could handle their power (including forearms) without leaving him on the canvas for a 10-count?

I agree! He's done this in the past...get KD to get back up and win. But never against legends! I know, I know....Roy and Nard were not prime and we should keep this in perspective BUT! Getting KD is getting KD and how you come back from it says a lot no matter who it is in front of you.

Joe proved he could handle adversity well and although he is and was the Favorite (Rightly so) he tried to preform that way which also makes me respect him more. I still feel Joe hasn't lived up to his potential and hasn't given the boxing world the fights we deserve as fans but he's at least finally stepping it up and doing so with great success.

Being undefeated this long will bring anyones confidence levels to extreme highs and at some point that mentally becomes apart of his make up or "DNA".

He came back from both and I think he won the remainder of both 1st rounds.

    1. Mentally tough
    2. Nervous starting on the big stages maybe
    3. Has heart

I just don't like how after the fight with Jones he admitted to being hurt by that shot, but then later said in an interview he slipped.
