He ate an uppercut from Kessler as well.

  2. Joe wasn't exactly dazed when he got up + they (even in their primes) would have been smarter than to expel precious energy on a foe that was not really hurt.

A good boxer can read when his opponent is hurt rem, ember. Its the difference between elite and just good.

    I agree with points 1 & 3. But 2 I'm a bit sketchy on.

It takes extreme confidence to go to MSG for the first time, and showboat a guy like Roy Jones Jr from the off, keeping his hands down, sticking his chin out etc.

He's also fought infront of thousands at the Millenium Stadium loads of times. I don't think he's nervous, just a bit careless and he needs to learn to concentrate from the beginning and keep his guard up a bit more.

But anyway, like TFFP said, the Jones knockdown was a blatant forearm on the bridge of his nose. The Hopkins knockdown was just a superbly timed, hard, accurate counter punch that he wasn't expecting from a world-class fighter.

If he got hit with the same punch six years ago, he wouldn't went down, it just age, he trades with most fighters he fights, that just catches up to you

If he got hit with the same punch six years ago he wouldn't have been allowed to get up!

Seriously end of thread right here. It's nothing more than when Tito Trinidad would get knocked down in the first half of the fight.

Reading the 1st post you would've figured Calzaghe was knocked out cold, recovered at 9 all dazed and confused and made a brilliant comeback to win the fight.

The first two elite fighters Joe ever meats he goes down in the first to both - then out runs them down the stretch due to age and where they are in there relative state of decadence.

Remember Calzaghe vs Mitchell..., Joe seem to get upset when he go down, he got a lot of pride, the more he is hurt the better he fight back, true warrior, but NOBODY and I mean NOBODY, not even Kessler, was able to take him to deep water.

Kessler can right now, but he needed that lost to do so, he is way better now that he was one year ago.

Yeah of course Old Hopkins destroying Pavlik but too old for Joe, stfu !

Kessler eat Jones Jr and Hopkins alive right now.
Kessler is by far Joe toughest fight.

I think Calzaghe was so relaxed going into these two fights that he got caught cold.

That has always been Calzaghes trade mark to fight fire with fire, if you knock him down then make sure he stays down. Otherwise he is going to get nasty on your ass.

I think its a testament to what an athelete he actually is to be in such good condition that he can recovr like he does.

That he goes in recklessly in the first round instead of feeling his opponent out.

    Simple!

He fought two people he thought were old men and were no threat to him and paid the price for being an arrogant twat.
