So because I feel that he isnt close...which seems the general consensus on here among probably 90-95% of the people who posted, then that somehow constitutes me as being nationalistic?

I dare you to look through my posts and point to ONE where I brought country of origin into discussion!

You can keep your assessment, blind as it is, I will stick to using facts and history to make up my mind.

Why I even wasted time answering your post is beyond me.

Being a fan of a fighter is fine...but try being a fan of the sport as well. It makes for great conversation when you can actually be impartial.

You know me man...I would have loved to break down the three fighters legacies and weighed each against each other. It would give me an excuse to go back and research three of my all time favorite fighters.

But then I start reading some of the nonsense posted (from both sides really...) and I just started to get more heated by the page, culminating in that reply I left for the final "anti-american" garbage.

I mean, of course it isnt all of the posters perpetuating this image. I have had many spirited back and forth's with you on Hopkins and other subjects, and I can safely say none of them have come down to what anthem plays at the beginning of their fights. But lately for every one of you on this site, there are 5 or 6 that base MOST of their arguements on nationality. Same the other way....as its just not Calzaghe fans...or non-american fans at that.

But its a ****ing epidemic on here. Its why I dont really post that much...and its the reason I have thought of deleting my account quite a few times as of late. Then I get pms from posters I respect asking where I have been...and I get roped back in...only to read that I believe Ali would beat Golota because Im a biased american (yes, that conversation happened a while back on here).

Like I said, it used to be that it happened here and there. Now its only here and there that you actually get good, insightful back and forth in between all of this ridiculousness (is that a word??? :?).

Anyway, as I said, I think you are a good poster and my comment was in NO WAY geared toward you or many others on here.

Joe C. has fought more current or former World Champs than Roy Jones-I'd say that's enough right there.

I rate him slightly ahead of Hopkins now, so any good win would give him a clear edge IMO - Johnson, Froch, Dawson, Taylor, Hopkins again, etc.

By the same token, it's close enough that another good win for Hopkins would probably give him the edge for me.

Jones, there's no realistic way Calzaghe would catch him at this point. He'd have to move up and beat Valuev, or at the very least pick up a Cruiserweight title or clearly beat 5-6 more top level guys to make the case.

:rofl:rofl:rofl That made me spit out my drink there, that Ali-Golota comment!

Yeah man, I totally agree with you btw. What I'd like is for people to present a strong valid case for their opinions when it comes to breaking down legacies rather than just saying some shitty one liner like 'Hopkins best wins came against dwarfs' or 'Calzaghe is a Eurobum whose best wins came against old men!' Valid arguments that are hopefully respectful of both guys accomplishments, particularly if we're debating fighters the calibre of Calzaghe and Hopkins.

Unfortunatly you're right when you say that the GF has went down the tubes in recent years....there are too much petty insults thrown around and not a whole lot of good debate or detailed arguments.

I must say, while I've clashed with DINAMITA on numerous occasions and disagree with him quite often with regards to Calzaghe, I do believe that he's did a good job in the time he's been here of raising the standard of the GF.

You don't always have to agree to respect other posters views which is seemingly lost on some people!

    :D

But at least you back up with your arguments with strong theory and sound logic and that's what we need more of :good

These are my thoughts pretty much. Agree on both Hopkins and Jones in this case!

As has been said before to surpass RJJ he needs to win titles at CW and HW.So who would you favor if he fought Adamek and Valuev.I would serously give him at least a 50/50 chance in both them fights.

    Well.......yes it does.

You look at it from an American prospective not being able to see the world picture its a problem alot of Americans suffer from more than the average person, try asking opinions of non-Americans and non-UK fans.

The facts are Calzaghe was unbeaten and was victorious against both Hopkins and Jones.Peel away everything else, age, venue, hype and the only facts that matter are who won and who lost, that is boxing.

Chad Dawson is the only one of them fights I think would add anything to his career.

When your talking about fighters like Hopkins and Calzaghe who eat world champs for breakfast its pointless looking at who won most titles. You have to look at the actual big fights they had and who they beat which is how people in the future will judge them.So who are these fighters on Hopkins resume that would cause Calzaghe the slightest problem?.

The 2 guys I feel who would cause Hopkins problems are Kessler and Eubanks.

    I see the light now!!!

So what you are saying is, because Calzaghe beat both Jones and Hopkins...that makes his legacy better? And I cant see this because I am american??

Oh it makes so much sense now. You have opened my eyes.

I now see that Trevor Berbeck's legacy surpassed that of Mohamad Ali's the day he defeated him. I mean, we take age, venue, hype, etc. out of the equation...I mean, he was undefeated at the time. I see, it makes perfect sense now.

    :good

Your logic doesnt make any sense bro...sorry.

Both Jones and Hopkins beat the better fighters. Both Jones and Hopkins had long reigns as the UNDISPUTED champion of their respective divisions. Calzaghe never did these things.

I LOVE Calzaghe...one of my all time favorite fighters. But in three posts, I can see you are a CALZAGHE FAN, not a BOXING FAN! Not only are you perpetuating yourself as someone with little knowledge on the sport with that last post (and the preceding ones actually), but you are also the example proving what I posted about xenophobic nationalism is spot the **** on.

Being american does not preclude me to having not only a mind of my own, rather than that fed off of what I see in the media...but also does not preclude me from being a knowledgable fan of the sport.

In fact, I, even as a LOWLY american, wouldnt be surprised to find that I actually know more about Calzaghe and his career than yourself...and I bet there are quite a few NON LOWLY AMERICAN posters on here that would agree with me just on the merit of my history of posting here.

Now to every else reading this....THIS IS THE TYPE OF INSULTING, NONSENSICLE BULL**** IM TALKING ABOUT!

We may just see with Kessler. I think Hopkins is a bad matchup for him...and have posted why on other posts (go look them up if you would like to see why). But EUBANK?

    Are you kidding me?

Eubank was a great fighter in his prime...but he fought Joe a good deal REMOVED from his prime. Also, the Eubank that fought Joe, not only took the fight on short notice, but also had to shed a good deal of weight to make 168 for that fight!

You put THAT version of him in the ring with Hopkins OR Jones and he doesnt see the final bell. Especially the '97 version of Hopkins or Jones, who were destroying PRIME versions of Glen Johnson and John David Jackson for Hopkins and Montell Griffin for Jones, respectively.

    :patsch
