We know Chavez Jr's path to glory will be opened once he gets rid of Martinez this saturday..but that's only the beginning, in your opinion, besides Sexio which fighters of the current boxing scene he needs to beat, which belts he needs conquer, etc for ¨the son of the legend¨ to be considered greater than ¨the legend¨ itself? This content is protected Legend in the making
Beating Sergio Martinez this Saturday would be a great start. Then he would need to move up to 168, decisively beat Andre Ward, and beat down several other contenders in the division to mirror Sr.'s dominant run at 135. With that done, he would have to move up to 175, put together a long run of consecutive title defenses against other champions/top contenders, and then beat a young up and coming phenom while he's in his mid 30s, to just barely edge out what Sr. has done. In short: 3 weight lineal/undisputed champion, over a dozen top 10 wins, and a handful of wins over prime/young P4P stalwarts. A very tall order for just about anybody. He has a slim chance to do all this, but I wouldn't bet on it. I like Jr. though, I'll be interested in watching his career to see what he can do from here.
He should be happy with Martinez... Ward would be an icing and any subsequent wins would be bonuses for a kid with no amateur experience. Martinez alone would quiet all the haters that said he wojldnt ammount to anything **** I was one of them now I actually pick Jr to win.
Having successful stints at super middle and light heavyweight? Beating Ward along the way would be essential.
Find the secret to eternal youth.Even then he would struggle. I don't hate Jnr anymore but he'll never surpass his father unless he has an undiscovered river of talent which he's kept hidden. The ability and hunger just aren't there.
There`s nothing within his reach that would enable him to come close to his father never mind surpass him. No fighter today is greater than Chavez sr, not even pac or fmj, Chavez jr has no shot... & that`s not a knock on him because I like him & I`ll be rooting for him vs Martinez, its just being realistic.
What can a title holder who's made only a very small amount of headway in creating a legacy do to surpass a top 30 ATG? Well goodness me, what don't you want me to list? He won't, though. He's to pretty, too lazy, too soft.
I'm gonna bump this thread after this saturday and everytime a new required achievement to surpass Chavez Sr is unlocked. I wonder how many times im gonna bump it.
