always using the jab on the way in
    cut the ring off
    work the body
    throw combinations
keep tight defense at all times
land the left hook to body

Cotto has to only knock Pacman out!!!. If he allows Pac-man to
get off first , he may get caught like Hatton. Pac-mans hand speed is truely amazing so Cotto has to guard and keep his gloves high (like Tyson
used to do). I would like to see Cotto do well but actually I think the promoters want the big Mayweather-Pacman PPV day to finally happen
and no decision will be rendered for Cotto barring a Cotto landing of a lucky KO punch. :p

Dictate the tempo of the fight and force Pacquiao to back pedal all the time. :deal

Do what he does best, BOX! And make his punches count. Thinking Pac-Morales I.

Stick to the body and hope it slows Pacman down to the point he can catch with something meaningful. Then go for the KO.

I disagree. Pacquiao won't try to rush Cotto, in fact he didn't try to rush Hatton. Remember, it was Hatton who tried to rush Pac, left himself open, and was countered, dropped, hurt, and knocked out cold. They expected this from Hatton, well because Hatton is pretty straight forward and is expected to come in with his chin exposed. They will try to make Cotto pay for his mistakes, if the opportunity is there, but by no means will try to rush him. That would be a very dangerous gameplan and Roach knows this. If the opportunity is there later in the fight, with little danger, I could see Roach telling him to finish him (like in the DLH fight), though I don't see it happening.

What does Cotto need to do to beat Pac?

Cotto needs to do what he does best against smaller fighters and that is break them down, beat them down. he can do it, he needs to slow Pac by investing early in body work but not be too predictable. The sooner the better. This will make it easier to land more punishment and ultimately chopping him down in the mid to later rounds. In order to get to the body, his work needs to start with a good jab. Time and catch Pac coming in, counter when he pulls back as well. remember, Pacs strategy will be to try to come in and get out using angles. Cotto will have to use short compact punches (he usually does this anyway) which are faster than longer ones to catch Pac, thats one way to close in on the speed gap. He also needs to use faints and vary his punches down up, both hands. Finally, he needs to not try to be a defensive wizard and try to out slick Pacquiao; fight smart but use his strength to the fullest and that is his offense.

All Cotto has to do is land a well-placed, well-timed and mean uppercut... to the testicles. :good

I think Cotto only fights dirty when he perceives the other fighter to be fighting dirty. I don't call a fighter dirty for retaliation. If Pac fights clean, which he always does, then I don't see Cotto going into that territory.
