Wins over both Pac & Floyd (which would ofcourse also be title defences)
...plus a title at 154 (and win over Mayorga!).

would make it close... but Tito would still be higher unless Cotto racked up a decent number of defences.

However, only clearing out the full house & unifying the titles (ignore PW) at 147 & 154 would put him above Tito.

again, 154 isn't much of an issue. 147 is, though:

-Margarito II (beatable but I'd still pick Tony to win this)
-Mosley II (do-able, esp. given Shane's age, but assuming his body isn't flat on the day ...Shane should pull off a decisive decision win with Naazim in his corner)

-Berto (do-able & I hope he does it)

-Clottey II (I think the Cotto that faced Judah & Mosley would win this decisively).

-Pacquiao (good luck to yah, Miguel!)

-PBF (sorry, just can't see Cotto doing it... unless by shocking, come-from-behind left-hook to the body which breaks Floyd's ribs and sends him crashing to the canvas <--- unlikely but would be sweet to see)

If he beats Pacquiao it will edge him ahead. I dont think he will though.

Tito made a name by beating bigger man and being like Duran in that sense with the bone-smashing punches.

But Cotto by beating on the SMALLER MAN (albeit p4p 1) would surpass Tito?

    lolno.

Even beating both Floyd & Pacman wouldn't mean he surpasses Tito, I'm sorry. It would, however, bring them neck & neck.

    Beat Pac
clear out his division (Margarito and Floyd included)
pick up a title at 154

If he accomplishes all of these goals he'd be comfortably ahead of tito imo.

If you notice most fighters say they want to retire early but never do it.

He can get on Trinidad's level, the man was taking concrete loaded punches for 11 rounds and was still firing till he had nothing left. The man has heart, that can't be denied and when you have heart you can be a great fighter.

He has to beat Pacquiao next, avenge the loss to Margarito by KO, move up in weight and win a title there. It's very hard considering the competition he has to overcome but he can be on that level if he gets it done.

Win out the next 10 years and retire with a great resume and a 75% KO rate.

    not impossible, but difficult.

at the age cotto is now, tito was already a 2 division champ and title holder in his 3rd weight class.

i think cotto unquestionably surpasses tito if he beats pac, floyd, rematches shane for the WW championship and beat paul williams dow the line. probably avenge his loss to margarito too.

In some aspects of boxing Cotto does a couple of things better than Trinidad but Cotto's lack of size hurts him in him trying to surpass Tito because Tito was able to become a 3 division world champion.

Yawn. So did he have illegal wraps when he fought Mayorga and knocked him out?

With that fight Trinidad proved his punching power when he was under much scrutiny about so called illegal wraps.
