Is fighting Thurman a step in the right direction? Win by KO or just win? IMO Danny doesn't deserve the "Cherry" moniker. He's done what most top fighters have; take on the big names, then a few no/lower tier names (although the Salka fight was baaaad.) I don't believe a cherry pick or two should overshadow what you have already accomplished.
If he can beat Thurman- in any manner- than he'll be considered an elite fighter at WW. He doesn't need to KO or beat him by a wide decision, just beat the guy and not have a controversial outcome. Even a very close, competitive decision would really help him debunk the moniker.
Only Sh*theadz call Danny "Cherry". Unless "Cherry" stands for the fact that HBO tried to make Garcia a "Cherry" they attempted to serve up that went on ti beat all their guys. (Well except for Herrera)
Everyone has one or two Salka's on their resume its almost routine.....that said taking on Thurman is an excellent step up for his WW campaign. Its a winnable fight for Danny and I can't imagine this bout being anything less than edge of your seat exciting. I personally think WW is one of the most talented divisions at the moment Khan Danny G Pac Spence Thurman Brook Porter Jessie Vargas Benavidez Bradley Miguel Vazquez David Avan Lamont Peterson *Terrence Crawford
Win or lose I respect Danny for taking this fight. I was pissed during that Salka stretch but when you consider the good 140 fights now bookending with this matchup, yeah he's back on track. If Canelo does the same thing then I guess I need to learn to be more patient
Beat Thurman and Beat him convincingly without any controversy or help from the judges . That's all it will take in my eyes .
