I think most people understand it's a lose-lose situation. There are those who whine about Floyd making Canelo fight 2 pounds under what he fought in his previous fights, and you know what will happen if GGG fights at 154 and loses.

Agree at his age and with maybe 2-3 fights left, GGG isn't gong to make him the money like a fight with Cotto, Canelo, Pacquiao or even Khan can.

Nothing at all......GGG has done nothing significant in the sport.

How much would floyd move up the ATG list by beating a guy who hasnt done anything great in the sport?

The cornb*lls that hate him on this troll infested forum will always pick someone else after Floyd beats a fighter. Thats the way its always been. The fighter they hype up to no end is made to look like an amatuer so they'll jump on the next fighters d*ck. Who gives a f*ck what these no life beta cuckolds have to say. All they do is hate on the best fighters in a sport they supposedly love. Smh.

Same old logic with Floyd in the eyes of some fans. He "gets no credit" with anybody therefore there's no reason to make a good fight.

With the exception of the catchweight factor, Floyd probably got more credit than he deserved for how he handled Canelo and Canelo was not the "GGG of a few years ago" for a lot of reasons. His struggles against decent boxers had already been exposed by Alfonso Gomez and Austin Trout prior to fighting Floyd. His style of fighting is totally different, while Golovkin is a methodical pressure fighter, Canelo is more of a quasi-aggressive counterpuncher. Golovkin is a natural Middleweight while Canelo is a 154 lb guy. Golovkin is also a lot older than Canelo.

And Floyd beat a faded, injured version of Pacquiao in a terrible fight both ways. He deserves credit for finally fighting him, and beating Pacquiao even under those circumstances is the win of Floyd's career. But let's not pretend this was the Pacquiao of 2008-2010 range.

Golovkin, while still a flawed fighter in my view, represents a very different challenge to Floyd. He is roughly in his prime, a lot bigger as a natural Middleweight, with an aggressive, yet skilled style of pressure fighting and explosive power. Unfortunately he's a victim of his own success as no names want to fight him. The motivation for Floyd fighting him is simple, legacy and money. The general public and most of the hardcore recognize that Golovkin is the best Middleweight in the world so it would be Floyd conquering another weight class against the best fighter there(if the fight was at Middleweight). Unlike about every other Floyd fight, Floyd would probably be a slight underdog going into the fight. He can probably lowball GGG in terms of his cut of the money(while still being a career high payday for GGG) and the PPV prospects of Floyd taking on GGG would be higher imo due to the threat level of the opponent vs Garcia or Khan despite their higher name value. Plus Floyd could always fall back on the "too big" argument if he lost the fight, and if he won, he would get more credit than any win he's ever had to date among the hardcore.

I think Khan and then it will be Canelo/Cotto winner. They bring the most money to the table and regardless of who Floyd fights and defeats he's not going to get credit from the majority of fans. I suspect it will be Canelo because I am leaning towards him stopping Cotto. Cotto has more advanced boxing skills at the moment but he's never taken damage the same since the first Margaresto fight. Regardless of what people say, Canelo hits very hard for his size. If he fought the level of comp GGG fights then he'd be knocking everyone out as well.

Beating Bum-love-kin does nothing for Floyd's legacy..

Your whole premise is flawed, who doesn't give him credit for those wins? There will always be a few haters who won't give credit where it is due but that will be the same no matter who he fights so those people can/should be ignored.

Totally get your reasoning here Rummy and its the fight that would make more sense from Floyd's POV. Personally though if he fought and beat GGG at a reasonable catchweight (157+) I would give him more credit legacy-wise than if he beat either Cotto or Canelo for the lineal title.

If a 5'7 Lightweight like Duran can make the move to MW, then why can't "The Best Ever".

Nobody in the division would make the move worth it...He'd be better off moving to 168 which would be virtually impossible

PBF wouldn't get any credit for beating GGG. These same people saying PBF is ducking GGG would be the same ones after the fight saying GGG was drained PBF ran GGG was never that good to begin with he never beat anybody PBF is ducking Cotto to fight a nobody in GGG. This is what you hear after every PBF fight and after GGG it would be no different.:deal How many times do you have to see it?:-(

Exactly. Which is why he's more likely to take that route than ever consider a fighter who doesn't have a single noteworthy win.

His critics will never be silenced no matter who he fights. They have an irrational hate for PBF. He could find the cure for cancer and they would say what took him so long?

No, he wouldn't get any credit - from as you say those people.

But fvck those people, let the haters hate.

Those of us who give a c.rap about boxing will know what it means. It means he beat (probably) the best middleweight in the world today in a weightclass 2 above his natural one at 38 years old. How much respect does Duran get now for beating Barkley?

It will mean around 5 more places further up the ATG list than a Cotto/Canelo rematch to me, depending on how the remainder of GGG's career pans out.

Don't get me wrong I totally understand why Floyd would take Cotto/Canelo instead, more money and same and equal achievement in the eyes of casuals and fanboys, and I don't blame him for it.

But saying he has nothing to gain is wrong. He'd gain a wee bit more credence to his TBE claims in the eyes of those in the know. Whilst Floyd would say that expert opinion don't pay the bills, I don't believe he is as unconcerned with his legacy as he makes out.
