KOed Stipe, just beat arguably the most talented heavyweight of all time, great resume... etc. What does Francis have to do to become the greatest heavyweight of all time? Even putting that aside, what and who is next? (This is all if he stays in the UFC of course)
Win another fight, probably. The "GOAT" in MMA seems to change as often as there's a new champion. As soon as he leaves, MMA fans will act like the sport has improved leaps and bounds since he fought and the new champion will be crowned the GOAT. Meanwhile you'll still have mid-40s gatekeeper types like Glover Teixeira winning titles.
They'll probably let him get that stupid loss back from Derek Lewis, and then set up the rubber match with Stipe while they're negotiating with Jon Jones. If he can manage all this and top it off by flatlining Jones, he'll be head and shoulders above Cormier, Miocic or any other notable UFC heavyweight. I would still struggle to rate him above Fedor Emelianenko, but present-day MMA fans have no idea who that; so it's all good.
Nah its still Jon Jones. His PED thing is an issue, but its hard to believe all the other guys arent. Youngest UFC champ. Never beaten. Hes up there with most successful title defenses. His resume is as deep as it comes. Imagine he beat half, if not most of these guys while not training and doing coke. You dont get more talented than that.
Looking at the current division I dont think theres much he can do tbh. Its pretty shallow and hes already beaten most of the worthwhile guys in it. I suppose he could beat the winner of Lewis/Tuivasa, Volkov and assuming he keeps winning Aspinall, but I dont think that would elevate him to GOAT HW status. It isnt like the HW scene of the early 10s where you had Cain, JDS, Reem, DC, Werdum, Brock, Carwin etc and even outside of them Bigfoot, Fedor, Barnett, Mir, AA, Kharitanov etc etc, and everyone was either in their primes or still had enough left in the tank to be a credible opponent.
he ragged doll every other LHW he fought, he didnt look worse at 205. But he looked average vs jon jones. Barely any takedowns... pfsh
Nothing he does will elevate him to GOAT at HW. But as most UFC fans are casual 15 year old ******s with recency bias and no knowledge of Pride or Fedor Emelianenko, they will keep saying "oh Ngannou, much power, he hits like ford escort at 90mph, monster energy".
lmfao. 'GOAT' and 'Ngannou' in one sentence is just a joke and shows how much of a casual sports MMA became in the last few years.
Asking the question since becoming the greatest heavyweight of all time isn't a very grueling task compared to a sport like boxing, Stipe only had 4 title defenses himself which is a lot for heavyweight.
