Look at how little success Johnson had at landing his jab. Johnson while only 5"10 has a great jab and a 75" reach, Froch 74". Bute stood in range pretty much the whole fight and using his upper body reflexes Johnson never landed it with any regularity. Bute also has a very good counter right hook that lands with power, stunned Johnson with it. Bika, Berrio, Zuniga, Miranda, Andrade, Johnson. Bute has faced more punchers than any other SMW and Andrade I was exhaustion, other than that he has never shown to be hurt from a punch. Froch on the other hand has been down, stunned, or wobbled by Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler & Johnson (Pascal can't remember) Bute is a better counter puncher than Ward or the version of Kessler that Froch fought. Kessler had great success countering Froch even with his comprimised eye sight and less refined technique at this stage. I mention Bute's great success at slipping Johnsons jab and his counter right hook above. Regarding his come forward style ever since the Andrade rematch he has been using that stalking, come forward style and is very good at countering you while applying pressure, moving forward and remaing rather elusive.
Thankyou, appreciate it :good Bump... I'm intrested in people's opinions here, it's intreuging from a tactical stand point.
He needs not to buy into Bute's feints, maintain HIS ideal range making annoying (from Bute's standpoint) 1-3 combos follow his long jab, and use variations in workrate... a calm jabbing Froch turning into a monster brawler for 30 secs in a given round could surprise the **** out of Bute. Aim for a gradual breakdown & late TKO, otherwise range is key in avoiding a decision loss.
Bute is great at avoiding being hit by big&wide power-punches so he needs decent power-punches(compact punches that pack a decent amount of power) a great work-rate(insane stamina). I can't see him do that. The other option would be huge uppercut up close were Bute won't see it, that will hurt him and Froch could finish it. Or make it messy like Froch-Dirrell Froch-Kessler and have a little extra from the referee's.
Are you saying that Froch has NO chance? Or that he'd be better off trying to draw Bute into a brawl? I think if he tries to draw Bute into a brawl, he will get countered aplenty and stopped. Johnson was very, very cautious in the fight with Bute. I don't see Carl being that cautious.
The point of the thread is to talk about Froch, and how you think he should fight Bute. No where does it ask you to stick your tounge in Lucian's arse.
#1 is the only thing i'm really scared of. as u said, it can happen to anyone. being a fight away from home bute could take a while to accommodate and focus so froch could catch him off guard with a power punch.
the way i see it: once bute has a few rounds in the bag in his favor he starts taking a bit more risks. he takes some damage in order to do some of his own. this is the difference between him and ward. ward is consistent the whole fight and doesn't really take needless risks. he wins the rounds but he doesn't try pleasing the crowd and going for the KO. bute does but you take the risk of something like andrade I.
Froch need to chase and cut the ring all night, keep is guard up,while not throwing to much. Be patient and try to tag him when that low hands defense fails.
past few fights, Froch tends to want to box rather than brawl, which would play into butes hands as Bute is far the better boxer, also being a southpaw helps. the world class fighters Frochs been taking on aren't southpaws...... so he could take some time getting use to.
