What does Golovkin have to do to go down as a great middleweight?

    A great middleweight the likes of Hopkins, Hagler, Monzon etc.

    He certainly has the ability by the looks of it, but with his age and most outstanding challengers avoiding him, is it even possible for him to reach those heights?

    well if you want to compare him to hopkins career arc at mw (for my money at least) he just needs time. hopkins' longevity is what really marked his mw run. ggg can just keep laying out the guy in front of him and he'll get that. hopkins' two biggest named wins were guys who moved up in weight to fight him. in time, ggg should get his wish with canelo at least.

    hes already a very good/great mw....unfortunately for him there isnt another a level mw to fight.....but we can say hes a very good mw.....thats not in question.....the question is how great of a fighter is he? we wont know because he ducked ward

    For me, this is 100% true.
    He is the best mw I've ever seen, and I've seen 35+ years of fighters..

    He's not just an atg mw, he's a bonfide atg fighter to me and a top 5 atg h2h fighter

    people keep talking about hopkins when they talk about ggg.....

    thats great for ggg if he all he wants to do is be mentioned with hopkins as a mw....ya...ggg can keep laying out b-/c level fighters on reg hbo and be considered a great mw........but they keep saying bhops name as if ggg just doing what hopkins did at mw will get him mentioned in the same breath as hopkins as far as a career...

    i think sadly these ggg fans equate being mentioned with hopkins for a certain time period will equate him being mentioned with hopkins career status...and it wont.....

    I think he might become a top10 middleweight ATG if he gets Canelo, Saunders, Jacobs and some other prospects like Derevyanchenko, Douglas, etc.

    But he needs someone who'd give him troubles, struggle against someone to have a good win on his resume. Maybe once he unifies the 160, he might get his signature win @168.
