What does it mean when they say a fighter "ruined" another fighter?

Duran ruined Davey Moore. BTW, losing by 1,1, and 2 points to Hagler in a fight he was ahead in after 12 doesn't classify as a beatdown. Trinidad ruined Reid as well.

Roberto Duran-Davey Moore and Felix Trinidad-David Reid were worse cases I think.

At least in terms of what they did afterwards. Meldrick Taylor was still a pretty good fighter and a world champ at a higher weight after the first Chavez fight.

Now Reid wasn't as talented as Taylor to begin with, but after Trinidad, he could barely get past journeymen. Taylor was still only losing to champs and top contenders until at least like 5 years after the first Chavez fight.

Yeah that's what I thought as well about Taylor, though you can't really blame him. He hurt Pavlik again in the rematch early, got him to wobble for a split second but didn't follow up in fear of getting tired later on just like the first fight.

Most would say it would mean that they have affected them mentally and severely dented their confidence, in some cases though it can a brutal physical beating.

Fernando Vargas was just involved in too many tough fights in general. The Tito fight most likely did the most damage, but it wasn't the only one. Wright, Quartey, Trinidad, Rivera, De La Hoya....all tough fights.

Sort of like Meldrick Taylor when the Chavez one did the most damage, but he got in too many exchanges for his own good anyway. He was probably involved in a lot of Philly gym wars as well. Sparring plays a big role in guys getting brain-damaged, but too often this is sadly overlooked.

I Think it a mental thing and also i think it's worse if the fighter believe's in his own hype, the best two example's being Naseem Hamed and Jeff Lacy.
They thought they were the best and couldn't come to term's with the beating's they took. Maybe a boxer with a better mental makeup can regroup and learn from defeat and come back stronger but some guy's are emotionally weak and are effectively ruined.

It means that Miranda hasn't been the same (performed at peoples' expectations) since he fought Pavlik. I disagree, though. I think it is more accurate to say that Miranda hasn't been the same since he stepped-up to a higher level of competition. Put him back in there with C-Class fighters and over the hill has-beens, and he'll still look impressive.

What about what Norris did to Taylor. Meldrick still had a few decent performances after the Chavez fight but none after the Norris fight

Would anyone hear consider Pacquiao ruining Barrera and Morales? They haven't looked the same after Manny destroyed both of them...

I was actually thinking that, Pavlik ruining Miranda.

Miranda NEVER had a chin problem prior to his war with Pavlik, but after that brutal KO, now we see him downed by Abraham.

Looks like he's going to have to learn some defense.

  15. Larry Holmes ruined a lot of fighters:deal poor Ali was sick not long after Holmes beat the hell out of him in 80:-( Cooney was never the same confidence wise after Holmes KO'D Him in 82, and Marvis Fraizer was basically done after holmes iced him in a round in 83..
