Others here have watched him closer, but I would say he started to slow down mid 90's or so.

I don't think he was at his best with Oscar fight. Do you remember the fight right before the DLH fight. He got knocked down with the first punch. He would have lost if not for the beat down he gave Hurtado late in the round. Also he looked like **** against Rivera. He was already losing it.

He didn't look good against Hurtado either.

No way in hell was he prime in '97.

That's about the time Oscar fought him. I'm not arguing but I think what destroys prime Whitaker is lack of heart and I think Oscar fight shows that. I think Oscar came at the right time to beat him but it was really Whitaker beating himself and I think that's the case with a lot of great boxers towards the end.

I already corrected it. That was the first exchange kd fight. He would later almost kill Hurtado.

Oscar didn't do anything to beat him. His fist real loss was against Tito. Whitaker was so hooked on drugs that he thought he was robbed against Tito. I remember him saying that he should have won in the poost fight interview.

There is no doubt Hearns would have beat him at 147

Weight disparity prime for prime, no? At '47 Hearns beats him, but lets put this into context.

But that's another fight and another story. When Tito beat him it was embarrasing to watch, very sad. Oscar on the other hand did not show he beat him convincingly but from a judges' point of view he wanted the fight more. Oscar had heart iin that fight even if he looked outclassed but Whitaker, for all his natural talent, looked as if he really did not care what happened in the ring or outside it. This attitude by the time Tito comes into the picture is horrible to watch.

Its not doubt that he was more past it with Tito but he was not in his against Oscar. He had looked terrible for his last three fights before that. Many would say that when he fought Oscar that was the best that he had looked in his past four fights

If I'm correct he stated that he was going to continue until he finally loses.
