Which boxers today have the potential to get to that mainstream appeal and why did you choose that boxer?

In the US? No one I can think of off the top of my head. Fluent english will stop Pacquiao. Looks will stop Pavlik. Image stops Mayweather.

DLH has all 3 along with boxing pedigree and skills. David Haye could pull it off if he reigned in the arrogance.

If by crossover star, you mean that people who don't normaly watch boxing watch his fights than Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Pac is being stopped by having all of his fights on PPV. I think Pavlik can get there if gets involved in some big fights. Mayweather already has crossover appeal. David Haye could certainly get there.

to cross over from boxing start to mainstream:

    1)you cant be ugly
    2)must be outgoing
3)start in a movie with chris tucker (people like chris tucker)

those are the 3 keys to stardom. boxers who have these characteristics? nobody...

David Haye could be the biggest British import since Led Zeppelin.

I am talking about DLH type of crossover appeal. I don't think any of the aforementioned fighters have the ability to do what DLH did, or Tyson, or Leonard. Wrong combination of attributes or not overwhelming enough for the media to catch on.

i totally that the language barrier will be pac's biggest hindrance from being a cross over star. but hey, we like him as he is. so it's all good

it probably starts when stars of other more mainstream sports also become fans of a particular fighter. the fans of these stars in turn become curious of this fighter thus increasing boxing's possible fan base.

pac having well-known boston celtics players as fans definitely helps him go more mainstream but i do agree that his difficulty w/ the english language will hinder him from being a crossover star.

You don't have to be De La Hoya to have crossover appeal. Just like you don't have to be Bill Gates in order to be rich. To have crossover appeal, you need to be able to be recognized by non boxing fans; get attention for non boxing related events. Floyd has been able to do this.

But I was talking about DLH type of appeal. So while your points are accurate, I never denied any of them in the first place. I am referring to DLH type of appeal in my posts and the criteria I laid out.
