Pat Cowdell came close to beating Salvador Sanchez? Eddie Davis come close to beating Michael Spinks? It happens in Boxing.

Nothing. He was already an ATG before he beat Pacqiao in the rematch

:rofl Cowdell was a decent British champion with an awkward style and was competitive with Sanchez, but NEVER at any point was in a position to upset Sanchez, the greatest featherweight ever aside from Willie Pep. And what are you guys talking about questioning JMM's greatness? This guy is a sure ballot to the hall of fame. Of course he's an ATG. His early loss, the loss to Norwood, and the loss to Pacman are all questionable losses. His only clear loss was when he bloated himself to fight Floyd 2 divisions higher than he was already fighting. JMM has proved his greatness at 122, 126, and 135. Unbelievable. This thread is a joke.:bart

    Nonsense

It was nothing like the best Naz, not even close, ruins your credibility to say otherwise, either that or you hadn't watched much of him.

Then again you are a MABtard (he never got hit either i suppose) so you are going to be a bit deluded about it.

Its a Barrera fan way to make his win better than it was, its also convenient for the NAZ haters of which there were/are many.

What I think makes Marquez an ATG is that he matched PACQUIAO in 2 bouts... who has ever matched Pacquiao Equally? not many people can say that they have had close fights with PACQUIAO... those 2 fights will remain in peoples mind's when thinking about Marquez as a great fighter and ATG status, Marquez is one of the most skilled fighters that has ever came out of Mexico... Wins Over Barrera, Casamayor, demolishing Juan Diaz and Kats... two young good fighters are notable wins...

But I do agree he has not had a win over big name fighters, destroying a young diaz will not be recognized regardless of the great accomplishment that was Because Juan Diaz was a very hot prospect but had no popular name...

I think right now, a win over Khan, Bradley Alexander winner, Ortiz, any of those young Lions at 140 can earn him CLEAR atg status... because right now he is ATG to some people but not all unanimously.

He could also stay at 135 and take on all the competition there is at that weight which there are a lot. Not very popular people but talented Fighters there are.... which could possibly help in having Marquez recognized as an ATG>

    To me he is ATG...

and this is how he ranks to me CURRENT for the 3 mexicans of our generation. Marquez's place can change depending what he does next and until he retires.

    Not from me he doesn't.

Good wins don't make All-time great fighters.

If you scored the Pacquiao fights for Marquez then I could understand your reasoning.

    Agreed.

That's fine. You've explained the reasons why.

JMM has the skills and accomplishments to make the ATG list.
