People will only say those things if PAvlik nuthuggers come out and say Pavlik is greater than Hopkins because he beat him. Hopkins is 43 years old. You gotta put things into perspective. At 43 years old Hopkins is still a pretty good fighter but nowhere near the amazing fighter he was in his prime.

fans will say he beat an old hopkins and the win should count little. if he struggles, people will say he get his ass torn to shreds by a young hopkins. lose/lose situation.

Yup. Good way to learn and to adapt. With any luck he will pick up some tricks from the old vet.

He gains a lot...as a lot of people have already said on this thread, Hopkins is an impressive win for anyone's resume simply because of the name recognition. Even though he's in his forties now, he's still a bigger name than nearly all of the people that Kelly Pavlik has fought, and it's always nice to add a future Hall of Famer to your resume whether you fight him when he's 25 or you fight him when he's 50 (as unfair as that may seem).

I think the BIGGER question should be "How good are Pavlik's chances?" I think a lot of people are overlooking Hopkins' ability, and I hope I'm wrong for Pavlik's sake. People say, "Oh well if Calzaghe beat Hopkins and Calzaghe slaps rather than throwing solid punches, Pavlik is going to knock this guy out." The truth of the matter is that Calzaghe is also a much TRICKIER fighter than Kelly Pavlik - Calzaghe is crafty and as a result he found ways to get in and get out against Hopkins, which you have to do against a guy whose defense is as good as his. I question Kelly's ability to use that sort of "reserved" style where you spend as much time analyzing your opponent and picking your shots as you do rushing forward and throwing - I hope he doesn't get blindsided with a slick counter.

At the same time, another question for me is Hopkins' power this late in the game...sure he knocked down Calzaghe in the first round of their fight, but I think it was due more to the way that Calzaghe was rushing at him when he got hit than it was Bernard being overly powerful. I have a feeling Pavlik is going to get hit with a few solid counter shots from Bernard, so let's hope Hopkins doesn't have much on them...I don't want to see a prospect like Pavlik with such a bright future be derailed by one of the dirtiest fighters out there!

Popkins got retired by calzaghe, an now to save a little face hopkins is going to bait this to non-boxing boxer into the rind, if this goes the distance i wouldn't be suprised to see hopkins drop only 2 rounds on the score cards,,,,,If i was hopkins, to make sure this sure thing dosn't slip away, i call a press conferance, get espn, ESB, cnn, fightnews.com an all the others, an start talking **** about palvik, how palvik don't want a piece of him, how he would beat him so bad his family wouldn't reconize him, an that "he would never lose to a white boy or at least not one from america".....an this time i think he will be right, i say popkins late stoppage or landslide UD

Well obviously he gains a win over a still very solid fighter, assuming he wins.

He also gains a VERY good comparison to Calzaghe if he has a dominant win, it will open up a lot of questions in the Pavlik vs Calzaghe saga.

yeah, calzaghe beat bhop but hop did drop him and he it was a SD. if pavlik wins more convicingly, a pavlik vs. calzaghe matchup will be more in demand.

Pavlik will probably lose, so not much. BUt what he should gain is respect for taking such a hard fight.

Its funny how all the Pavlik fans discredited Calzaghe's win over Hopkins, yet now seem scared shitless that their fighter is going to fight him.
