To be considered a great? Would he have to beat the likes of Crawford, Thurman, Andrade, Canelo etc... What bar are u setting him?
Undisputed WW champ. If not at least Unify and beat Crawford or Thurman. I like him to beat Andrade, If he could jump up 2 weights and do that I'd consider him great.
Same bar set for all fighters, just fight the top guys of the division. Doesn't get more simple than that.
He definitely needs more names on his record. A drained, one-eyed Kell Brook and an overrated Mikey (I have to admit, I was one of the people backing Mikey too but even I think he's average now). Crawford is a must. And then I think a world title fight at 154, probably against Hurd would be good. Then I think we can talk about 'greatness'. He's automatically a great though if he stays at 147 a bit more and beats Yeleussinov. Cause Daniyar is THE benchmark even if he's not world champion. He beats him and Spence is automatically a great in my eyes. Right now though, he's far from it.
If he cleans out WW (Garcia, Thurman, Crawford), he would also then have wins over the last 2 unified JWW champions (Crawford and Garcia), and the defacto best WW (Thurman). Then if he went up to JMW and cleaned that division out and defended the belt with an iron fist, I think that would make him a great, he wouldn't even need to go to MW to be considered one. Note: I don't think Spence beats Canelo or Andrade, or big Charlo, Golovkin, Jacobs, or Derevchenko.
A one eyed fighter would find it difficult to obtain a licence to box professionally. Brook had two eyes and Spence bust the good eye, not the one that got damaged against Golovkin.
No , not just like Margartio's eye. Brooks eye was nowhere near as bad. Cotto busted the same eye in the rematch anyway so i don't know wft you're talking about , and i don't think you do either. Just a thoughtless kneejerk response.
Yet he had no issues at all with that eye. It was the healthy undamaged eye that went against Spence.
I don't care if he picks up a couple of losses on the way, he can avenge them, but if he beats all the to guys at WW, then moves up and beat a few of the top guys there, that would be HUGE in terms of greatness, if he then went further to 160 and beat a couple of the top 5 guys there then he is a sure bet for ATG status. However, before we even start this conversation, Spece, along with almost every other WW, needs to get a MOVING now! Stop wasting your prime years doing next to nothing brother! I want you to succeed, just increase your opposition level and fight the top names now, and fight 3+ times per year if you have to. You will make more mullah and your will become a legend too. Nothing to lose, just do it!
