I strongly suspect that Maravilla is the reincarnation of "The Boxing Marvel" Jack Britton. Think about it. Sergio is a natural fighter, stylist, and strategist with great legs. So wasn't Britton.

    * Britton was trained by Dai Dollings -who trained marathon runners in Wales. Martinez was a pro soccer player and cyclist. Did someone say "legs"?!

    * "Maravilla" means "the Marvel" --as in "the Boxing Marvel."

    * Both look like matinee idols

    * Both are known for their legs

    * Both take the time to strategize -hell, Britton figured out a peaking Benny Leonard's flaws. Martinez had a damn notebook.

    * Britton fought and defeated Mike O'Dowd despite being physically overmatched. Britton not only overcame a physically overwhelming guy, he also overcame Ted "Kid" Lewis -who was an all-action stamina guy like Paul Williams.

***And finally, get this, Britton scored the only knockout in his 20-odd fight against Lewis... and he did it with a mirror-image overhand that landed on Lewis's jaw. Sounds like Saturday night. Lewis, like Williams, landed on his face!

Martinez is good, but string bean fighters like Paul Williams often have shaky chins. Plus, Williams is not a natural middleweight. Martinez barely beat Kermit Cintron ( It was acutally unfairly called a draw.) Those who think he would have beaten a prime Hagler or Monzon are deluded.

Barely? He won 10 rounds of that fight. He was handing Cintron a beating near the end. Also, Williams has shown throughout his career how solid his chin is.

Williams does NOT have a shaky chin. He got caught with a perfect punch.

The fact is, he got hit and ko'd by one punch. Fighters with great chins are NEVER ko'd. Anyway, then if he has such a great chin, but was ko'd, then it can be looked at as sort of a freak knockout and can be dismissed as an aberation, thus Martinez's true worth cannot be measured by this knockout.

    Baer?
    Foreman?
    Pacquiao?

Tons of fighters with great chins have been knocked out. It's ****ing boxing, this is a sport where people repeatedly throw blows to the head with concussive force.

Fighters with great chins who were never knocked out had luck to go along with their great chins. :good

There is no such thing as a human being who can't be knocked unconscious with any punch.

I should have said fighters with great chins are usually not ko'd by ONE PUNCH. Of course fighters with great chins such as Tyson, Foreman, etc. have been knocked out by such factors as an accumulation of punches, puches plus the effect of fatigue, etc. And, of course a fighter can have a good chin and be ko'd by one punch, especially if he doesn't see it coming. This probably happened to Williams against Martinez. Yes, I have been watching boxing for 26 years. I know my sh#t.

The bottom line is its too early to judge Martinez's ATG status. I don't think he would come close to beating Hagler or Monzon.

What ATG status? When did that come up? He's a good fighter but he's beaten two world champions for SNV's sake.

  15. foreman never was ko by one punch.... he was very tired and he never was ko really, he was down because he was gassed. even hard punchers like lyle, frazier, norton, cooney, morrison, briggs, cooper, moorer, prime evander.. could not ko him.
and ali was not a hard puncher.it does prove that he was tired.
